asubaseball727 Posted December 8, 2005 CID Share Posted December 8, 2005 Hey, I'm pretty new to increasing my speeds. However I have read the guides, followed them, ran cablenut and used the calculator to enter my preferences, however after all of that... my speeds are still the same. I have comcast, am behind a router (linksys) and zonealarm( although after disabling and re-opening browser no increase in speed was found) I have 3 stars from the test. My speeds are as followed: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1880 Kbps about 1.9 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 229 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Dec 07 2005 19:54:41 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 34X faster than 56K 1MB download in 4.47 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 40.28 % of your hosts average (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-YQ4KDTIM2 :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 184 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Upload Speed is:: 22 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Dec 07 2005 19:55:33 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 46.55 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 50.69 % of your hosts average (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-H248JKOMU Any help is much appreciated!!! FallowEarth Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 Traceroute: maps the path of data from local machine to targetted host. Way cool because it bypasses software/spyware which would affect your speedtest. It's a good means of determining if it's somethiing on your machine slowing you down, or something in the network

FallowEarth Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 Those asterisks (*) indicate a timeout, which is usually bad news. Are you on a router? If so, try connecting directly to your modem.

FallowEarth Posted December 18, 2005 CID Share Posted December 18, 2005 I would make a direct connection with your modem, then post speedtest results and traceroute. This will determine whether it is the router causing restriction and speed loss.
