resopalrabotnick Posted December 12, 2005 CID Share Posted December 12, 2005 what other drives do you have. cable select is the safe option, means you don't worry about what plug on the cable you use. just format it with windows. if you feel the need to wait, check the mfr website to see if they have a low level format utility. but low leveling can in some rare cases screw up the drive. resopalrabotnick Posted December 12, 2005 CID Share Posted December 12, 2005 what's the other hdd? if it is of a similar generation as the new one, you should hook those two as master/slave on the primary ide and the cd on the secondary. although i will admit that most hdds and cds nowadays run in the fastest transfer modes anyway so juggling shouldn't be necessary at all. rammolo Posted December 12, 2005 CID Share Posted December 12, 2005 Go with master/ slave option, then format it in disk management
peepnklown Posted December 12, 2005 CID Share Posted December 12, 2005 Place the HDD that will have the OS on it MASTER. Actually, low level format is the wrong phrase to describe the utility manufactures offer or 3rd party software companies offer, it
TheHalf Posted December 14, 2005 CID Share Posted December 14, 2005 For future considerations go with a SATA drive and use RAID 0 or 1 depending on the type of data your looking to store. TheHalf
