resopalrabotnick Posted December 22, 2005 CID Share Posted December 22, 2005 start cablenut, hit dlete cable nut settings, save to registry, reboot. this will reset you to os defaults. then pick the cablenut file closest to what you have and try that. socom2freak Posted December 23, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 23, 2005 that is one of the big problems here, they are over selling and under providing... im sure they can open enough throughput for our speeds to be @4mb, but im the only person i know that gets that, both my bros carry insight, my girlfrinds folks have it, my old neighbor had it, they just dont provide very well... and its because most users dont know about test pages like this or even care if they are getting the speeds they pay for, as long as its faster than dial up they will gladly pay the 49$ a month... im sure if i can get enough people to make a big stink about it, something will change... i know they are capable of getting us the bandwidth we need because they offer the premium 6mb/down and 512k/up in my area.... so if they are able to offer that to everybody in my area they can damn well give us the advertised speeds... sorry just venting here... have had nothing but problmes with these people, i used to call them i bet an average of 10 times a week for about 3 months, and they tell me that there is nothing wrong with anything... the guy comes out and does his own web testing on my computer gets the same results as i do and still nothing is fixed... wish i lived in a big city, could get verison fiber optics... any idea how well that works for internet gaming??? as compared to cable or dsl. thanx alot guys... Voltageman Posted December 23, 2005 CID Share Posted December 23, 2005 Sounds like you have the same problems I had with my cable here... The node is oversold, and when too many people get on, there is not much you can do, but call and complain. Take screen shots of speed tests, and see if you can call the company themselves(not tech support...explain tech support has been no help), and get in touch with a person a little higher up on the chain. I went through 6 months of fighting with OOL, when my speeds with them would drop from 8,000kbps to around 1,000kbps at night...(they seemed to think for some reason my pc only acted up at night lol). Long story short, finally after getting my complaints up the ladder a bit, they finally fixed the issue(6 months later), and I got my speeds back. But they pissed me off so much, as soon as Fios said they were available, I took my cable modem and sacrificed it to the internet gods... As far as gaming goes my fiber kicks cables butt...But then again my cable was only 10/1, and Fios is 30/5...So hard to really compare the two...Except to say my ping is always the same, but with cable it tended to jump around a bit depending on the time... If you truely are not getting what you pay for, I would complain, complain, complain, and complain some more to them.... If they still don't fix it, tell them you would like a refund on your bill until they fix the problem or you will cancel your service(you'd be surprised how fast they fix it when they find out your money might go somewhere else). I did get a refund from OOL(but even that I had to call several times to remind them...they kept conveniently forgetting)..... And if they are the only high speed option in the area(No other similiar alternatives), and you truely are not getting close to what you are paying for, tell them you plan to make a complaint with the Better Business Bureau...OOL sure got moving when I said that.. socom2freak Posted December 23, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 23, 2005 thanx for the advice. yea im gonna get something moving here, i mean i know they dont intend it to be this way but after me complaining so much ya would think they would fix it or payback or something.... i never thought about fighting my way up the food chain lol, maybe thats what i need, just refuse to talk to anybody that answers the phone, demand to speak to a superior... once again guys, thanx for all the help. resopalrabotnick Posted December 23, 2005 CID Share Posted December 23, 2005 just remember, people will automatically try to give you the runaround, but do your best to be courteous non the less. smile on the phone. people can hear that. if they are treated with respect they will be more likely to do the same for you if you just rant at them, they will take your complaint and put it in the round file.
