Mr. Hahn Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 The only hardware that would effect your speed is your ethernet card, and I even doubt that would have too much of an impact. It's measuring bandwidth, not benchmarking your PC. He's talking about a burst in your speed when you first begin downloading something. If it isn't given enough time to level out, your score will be misleadingly high.
RTB Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 He's talking about a burst in your speed when you first begin downloading something. If it isn't given enough time to level out' date=' your score will be misleadingly high.[/quote'] And that's the reason why 99% of all ISP use a small file to test your speed. Strangely, chello has a choice between a 1 MB and a 5 MB file. Unfortunately, the maths behind the speeds are definatly off, since I get lower speed inside my own network than I get to the US. I am now getting 3.4 Mbps conection while paying for a 3mbps hey justin 45K is nothing of 3 Mbps, if you had a 56k connection i would have understand why you think TCP optimizer worked better then Cablenut. TCP optimizer use a very large RWIN value, that get you alot of burst speed first MB you downloading and the test calculate your average speed, so 1 MB of burst in this case has a very big impact on result. Use the 3 MB test instead to find a more accurate result. also read this thread about burst speed and large RWIN. http://www.testmy.net/forumz/viewtopic.php?t=1011&start=0 VanBuren

xs1 Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 since I get lower speed inside my own network than I get to the US. same here. Downlaoding off any other server, is beautiful. But if i try getting anything hosted by my isp's lines, i dotn even touch 100 kbs.
