  1. Not sure about D Way, but do you have a router that you can enable port forwarding on?

That way you can have your buddies connect to your FTP site via another port other than 20/21.

D Way users, is this an option?

  2. I'm sure any manufacture can have their own problems with certain drives.

I'm sure delivery has alot to do with the quality of the end product, I've seen many packages treated the same as the Samsonite Gorilla treated the luggage in the old commercials (that dates me a little).

I can't say that I have ever had any HD go bad on me, just that my newest WD is a little noisy; It works fine, though.

  3. Cox 4000/512 plan:

    FF always consistent above cap.

    With FF:

  4. My uploads have always been accurate with FF using any test size.

  5. I'd suggest either Seagate or Maxtor. I've had problems with Western Digital, Samsung, and Quantum Drives.

You know, I have 1 Seagate (original), and I bought the $52 Western Digital as a second drive a few months ago.(Both 80GB)

The new WD does make funky noises on occasion like it is having trouble starting.

I think I am going to have to agree with you, Seagate = No Probs, WD = funky noises.

Go Seagate or Maxtor - I'm converted.....

  6. Are you close to other homes or Apts that could have access points in them?

I would try changing the wireless channel in your router.

Most I think are defaulted to channel 6, unless you change them.

Try channel 10 for example, maybe there is interference from someone else's AP.

Edit: added pic from Linksys site, it's blurry, best I could find....

  7. Well, you always have the choice of ordering online.

I would go with at least 80GB, since they are quite cheap now.

Here is a link to NewEgg.com, all these are under $70, with like $2.99 shipping. Most are better deal than WalMArt.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Manufactory=&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&description=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=70.00&SubCategory=14&Submit=Property

(I know, huge link, but it narrows the search)

And Wal Mart's, looking like $69.96 for the WD, same is $55 + Shipping $2.99 + Taxes (?) for Newegg.

Few bucks more at Wal Mart if you don't want to wait.

  8. 100cc that's a pretty disturbing sig u got there...not even funny in the least...just my opinion

Ahh, it's kinda stupid funny, obviously not really kicking an old lady....

And, I am addicted to Jessica Simpson's new video.

Anyone seen that, wholly crap, Daisy is looking good.......

Puts Britney to shame, I don't ever watch MTV, was just flipping through, now I will be checking it out more often.

  9. Same, COX 4000/512, 40$/month.

Although I consistently score around 4700-4800mbps.

  10. dn0 : Don't do the manual update I did this one time & had to uninstall AVG & reinstall it to get the automatic update to work again. It might not do the same to your system but I advise against the AVG manual update.

Thanks, cholla, I will avoid the manual update.

And I am not going to give up on AVG, it is a good av prog, just having a few issues lately.

I'm sure they figure it out. Probably some piece o' sh!t spammers attacking them, or something.

  11. Same for me the update starts then closes the connection before finishing

Looks like a server prob or DOS attack.

Or a broken server, and millions of PC trying to update themselves.

I tried the manual update from the website, no go, and the site is slow, too.

  12. Nice!

  13. TM - Are all FIOS customers locally powered?

Seems like that will become a freaking battery replacement nightmare a couple years down the road.

And yes, I understand glass can't carry AC or DC, blah blah blah, but the twisted pair nearby still has ~48VDC on it.

  14. Im not sure but I believe you have to remove it yourself, I believe I have had this before. But then again I am fat.

    Shug; great minds think alike....:-)

duffman - You really should try running an AV while in safe mode.

This just happened to another user a couple of days ago.

    Refer to this thread: https://testmy.net/forum/t-5715

There's a couple of pointers there on running a scan in Safe Mode ( can't hurt).
