  1. I have 6000 and I used to get great download speeds using P2P software (azureus), like 100k during the no-fap time period. It never really worked that great during normal hours, but would work fine from 12-3 and than later when they changed it to 11-4 (pacific time). However just starting within the last few weeks, I can only get a max of maybe 5k down if I'm lucky, even when there's plenty of seeds/peers, etc. Anyone have any ideas of what's going on? Dway change something? Is anyone using a different app that's still working? Thanks!
  2. I was downloading a large file during the 3-6am period the night before last, and came in to check on it only to see dismal speeds (under 1kb), so I figured I'd power-cycle it. When I plugged it back in, only the power light came on, and nothing else. Since then I've tried to power-cycle it numerous times to no avail. I only get the power-light, and nothing else. Any ideas before I waste a few hours with support???

  4. I've been doing some searching and reading on here, and it seems the consensus is that the best way to share the connection from a dw6000 is to use a switch. I've never used one or am familiar with them, can you guys recommend a couple? All I'm trying to do is share the the dw6000 connection with my laptop. The dw6000 is currently connected to my pc. I've tried a linksys router I have with no avail. So I'd like to try a 'switch'. May want to connect a third computer in the future. Can you guys point me in the right direction of a good switch to buy? Thanks!!!
  5. Ok here's the deal - I have a 6000 with about 2 months left on the contract. I just won a 4000 off ebay. I understand that Dway can be a real b*tch about letting you switch...yet I've read where people have done it. Has anyone here done it? Any tips? (Please?) Thanks!!!!!!!!!
  6. This is hilarious and just hits the spot: (Warning: Crude Language!) http://www.illwillpress.com/tech.html Just replace the word "computer" with "dw6000" and relive the magic...
  7. Ha, I just got all excited about this the other day myself. The website at covad.com said I could get dsl at my address, I even called and confirmed and signed up, and then 2 days later I get an email that says, sorry - can't do it for technical reasons. Bastards. Who are they to play with my emotions like that???
  8. Thanks for all the replies people. I'm wondering if the distance will be an issue since the nice sales-lady (probably clueless, lol) on the phone told me they would have to run a "dedicated line" for me since I am somewhat "out-of-the-loop". Of course, I have no idea what this means, but I know I have to pay extra for it, so hopefully it means that it will work! Fortunately, the have a 30 day trial period before you have to commit to anything, so that is pretty sweet. I'll let you fellas know what's up when I get everything setup. That was good advice someone posted above about not cancelling Dway until the DSL is up and blazing. Good call. Anyhow, thanks again for the feedback and good advice, I'll let you guys know what happens. In the mean time I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
  9. Just found a company that will do DSL for me...I only have two months left on my Dway contract, so I'll just fork it over instead of paying the cancellation fee. ($120 vs. $300, those idiots). I've already signed up and can't wait to get it. It's a dedicated line that will cost me $74.99 a month, but I'll gladly pay an extra $10/month to end the DirecWay nightmare and get REAL broadband! Anyways, sorry to gloat, but I've been waiting for this a LONG time. I hope the rest of you find such luck soon and friggin Dway goes out of business.
  10. Yeah there was just a thread about file sharing apps here... The same thing happened to me using Shareaza. Worked great for about a day, and then nothing...the dw6000 decided it didn't like it all the sudden. So I switched to Gnucleus which I've been using ever since. Works great.
  11. Just found this, have you guys seen it? Downloaded it and it's pretty freakin cool. http://netfranklin.com/
  12. Gnucleus works great for me - I just give it full permissions in Zone Alarm and I get very fast downloads. I also tried Shareaza, which worked great for about a day, and then the dw6000 decided it didn't like it and wouldn't give me any bandwidth. That was when I switched to Gnucleus, which so far has worked great. Free too.
  13. Well, here we are a day later: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 112 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Download Speed is:: 14 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Fri Apr 15 2005 16:23:23 GMT-0700 (Pacific Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB download in 73.14 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 14.34 % of your hosts average (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-SKFW5ODC4 This really sucks...any advice?
  14. I've been getting slower-than-dialup speeds from Dway the last couple days...I haven't broken down and called support yet, but I'm on the verge. The annoying thing is that it's been fluctuating from my normal 800-1000 download to practically nothing, and then back again.
  15. Once again, does anyone know where I can find out if I'm being FAP'd right now?
  16. Usually it's pretty decent for me, when it's working... But this is just stupid: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 143 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Download Speed is:: 17 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Thu Apr 14 2005 16:16:08 GMT-0700 (Pacific Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB download in 60.24 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 18.29 % of your hosts average (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-CT1QZI5HJ
  17. Direcway is being slower then dialup right now for me, which is pretty unusual. Either it usually works or doesn't, but this in between thing is new. I re-install Windows on my pc last night and downloaded all the updates including SP2, so maybe I am getting FAP'd? Is there anyway you can tell you are getting FAP'd while it's happening? Also, it's been just about 12 hours since I stopped downloading, so hopefully it speeds up soon...
  18. Ha, thanks for the help guys...turns out it's because I hadn't paid the bill in a while... At least it was an easy fix!
  19. Well, it happened last night, it's almost been 24 hours...guess I'll have to call the dreaded Direcway support tomorrow... Anyone else got any advice?
  20. Hi guys, No idea why this is happening. Out of nowhere last night, my connection stops working and instead I get this in my browser: TCP Acceleration Problem Detected (Error 802) Your Direcway terminal has detected a problem in TCP acceleration. This could be due to a problem in the receive link or in the NOC router or in your terminal's setup. You can reload the web page by clicking on the refresh button to see if the problem persists. If you are still having problems accessing the web page, check System Status on the System Control Center to get more information I check the System Status and TCP Acceleration Status says Not operational with a red flag next to it. Also, the "SYSTEM" light on my DW6000 is off. I have tried the "unplug - wait 10 seconds - plug back in" quite a few times to no avail. Please help! Thanks in advance!
  21. Was just reading this: http://forevergeek.com/open_source/make_firefox_faster.php Will this work for satellite connection, Dway in particular?
  22. Wow, even your normal 'real world speeds" are a heck of a lot faster then mine. I usually average about 900-950 Kbps through Internet Explorer. Any tips? Thanks!
