  2. Whew.... cool. If your brave and feel like trying to tweak it yourself, look on the net and try to find hughes meter for direcway. Its called and OPI. (outdoor pointing interface) if you can buy or borrow one, i can walk you through using it realistically, they should come and fix it, but we've already established that hughes sucks good luck
  3. sorry. Don't shoot the messenger.... please...
  4. sorry to say, they are the same way to their "Hughes Certified Installers" too. Try threatining to switch to Wild Blue and they should listen. The isolation number is actually your transmit speed. It does very much affect your browsing speed in that you already have a high latency, so any increase in the time it takes to transmit your info will stall your browsing even more than it is already. Depending what satellite your on, your isolation, or cross pol should be between 61 to 70 minimum for decent speeds. The direcways i install have been getting isolation in the high 80s and low 90s. If you can get good numbers, it will sail and also not kick out as bad in bad weather. Long story short, you got lied to, so did most people that deal with direcway and you need to call and complain alot. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but i hope i at least straighted it out for you.

  6. Hey, first time asking a question, but. I have the supposed 7mbps qwest premium dsl with msn. Lately i've been getting only 1 to 2.5 mbps. i've tried some of the tweaks posted but i couldn't find any specifically for my connection. I guess i kinda also think there may be larger problems but I cant figure out what. I've got spybot s&d, and avg for protection and an actiontec dsl modem. You guys always say there are no dumb questions... Thanks
  7. also, g11 sucks ass, your gonna wann tell your installer, if possible to change you to G4r (99 west), i beleive g11 is 95 west and not as good.
  8. Ok, here goes. First, what dish/modem do you have (4000, 4300, 6000, 7000?) Then, follow the cable, it should have markings on it such as Commscope 2200mhz 75 ohm standard, then a ft marking. Write back with the cable specs. Then tell me for sure what your signal numbers, acp number and frequency numbers are. Also, don't screw with tinfoil at all, just unplug the receive and transmit cables from the back of the modem and touch the center wire to the outside of the barrel connector on the modem. then write back to me. I think your gonna have to call dway and get a professional reaim. The beam is so tight that your average joe will do nothing but get aggravated trying to aim these in. You also would need to have a long ass extension cord, your modem and a computer out where the dish is to do any good without having the right meter. hope i helped
  9. the isolation number is your transmit speed. you can check this by going to the dw control panel (http://192.168.0.1/fs/registration.html i believe. then select antenna pointing test. don't check the OPI box, and do select "ACP" (auto cross pol). you should end up with a signal number (73) and an isolation number, prolly in the 60's. If thats the case, than a reaim should prolly be in order. Also, you can check your frequency number or transponder under the same dwcontrol panel. on the tab on the far right (Overview i think). Hope that helps
  10. Cool that you got your prob solved, but i wanted to clear somthing up. The reason they are telling you to put your thumb on the coax is to ground out the line. This can cause the lnb (radio) to essentialy freeze up and the modem to heat up very fast. This is a prob if your system isn't grounded correctly. Dway is stupid though, and you should instead unscrew the connector and touch the center wire to the outside of the barrel connector (the plug you just unplugged from). The connector is wired to the main board of the modem and thus is connected to your power system and house ground. Cant find a better one than that. If that helps anyones problems, than you need to call dway and have them send an installer (me out to ground your system properly. Otherwise, sell it on ebay and buy a wildblue.
  11. post your signal strength and isolation numbers for me if you would. Also what satellite and frequency are you on. Then i'll be able to tell you more. Sounds like a transponder (frequency) change is in order. They prolly have you on an overused xponder.
  12. Hey, its my first time here. saw the prob with dw4000. I'm a Hughes Network Certified Directway installer, so i thought maybe i could help. I've found that the 4000 modem can be a bit faster in raw download speed, but not in upload at all. Also the 4000 get real touchy and unreliable after a few years. Also, whats your signal and isolation numbers at? Can you trace the coax cable from the modem to the ground block, then to the dish? Check all the connections for corrosion or other crap in them. Check groundblock as well. If any of these things show a decent amount of blackness or other discolorationg replace them. If you can find out through the software what your signal numbers are and what satellite your on, (usually through the info on the system tray icon) i can tell you if your out of alignment. hope i helped. any questions i can answer i certainly will loon tune
