  1. Hey All,

    I am brand new to this site, I am trying to up my speed.  I do a lot of file downloading via utorrent. I am getting a speed of around 30-40kB/s  (even though I have no idea what that means.

    I am running XP, with my laptop.  It is brand new.  So it must be some sort of good speed.  Again, I am dumb with these computer things.  I am on Sympatico Wireless with Speedstream 6300.

    Here are the stats I ran.

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 2636 Kbps about 2.6 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 322 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server2)

    Test Time:: Mon Feb 6 02:07:53 EST 2006

    Bottom Line:: 47X faster than 56K 1MB download in 3.18 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 43.97 % faster than the average for host (121.206)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-4H35Q67K0

    Is that good?  How come I cant get speeds that people talk about in utorrent?   Anyone help this poor old loser????

    Mike

    It depends on what package You got from Sympatico... did You get the 3000/640 or the 5000/800?  ... if You have the 3 meg package then Your speed is right on...actually it was better then mine by 0.1megs or 20kB/s ... problem is there is never a constant speed with utorrent or any torrent for that matter... it depends on how many people you are d/l from ...etc..etc. I'm lucky if I get in the 120 to 190kB/s range. And that's if there is over 200 seeds to download from ,I usually get 30 to 60

  2. Yeah but Just ...the smart test is not to great... it will only take me to the 2992 test, and My speed reports.

    2992 Test

    There is a small difference at this time, but usually I get about 10 to 15KB/s more on the 12 meg test.... see sometimes on the 2992 meg test the connection doesn't get to full throttle cause the test finished to early.

  10. Yes I am sure it's MTU , I'll copy and paste what I got from SpeedGuide.net

    MTU = 1452

    MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

    MSS = 1412

    MSS is not optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU value.

  11. No matter what program I try my MTU won't change.... I set it to 1492 cause I'm using PPPoE DSL..... but as I mentioned that no matter what program I use it won't stay at 1492 it goes back to 1452 according to the tcp/ip analizer at SpeedGiude.net, anyone have a fix for this or know where in the Win98se registry when I can set this manually.

    Thanks
