  1. I make creamy reuben soup here:

    Creamy Reuben Soup

    Servings: 8

1 cup Frank's or SnowFloss Kraut, well drained

    1/2 cup onion, chopped

    1/4 cup celery, chopped

    3 Tbs butter or margarine

    1/4 cup unsifted flour

    3 cups water

4 tsp beef flavored bouillon or beef bouillon cubes

    1/2 lb corned beef, shredded

    3 cups half and half

12 oz pkg swiss cheese, shredded

6 to 8 slices rye or pumpernickel bread, toasted and cut into quarters

In a large saucepan cook onion and celery in butter until tender.

    Stir in flour until smooth.

Gradually stir in water and bouillon and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered 5 minutes.

Add corned beef, kraut, half and half and 1 cup cheese.

Cook 30 minutes until slightly thickened, stirring frequently.

Ladle into 8 oven-proof bowls. Top each with toasted bread and 1/2 cup cheese. Broil until cheese melts. Serve immediately.

    Prep Time: 20 minutes

    Cook Time: 45 minutes

It's so deicious, I get requests for it from people at work :D

  2. It IS Christmas for me..got Hughes net installed the other day..

have been on dail-up for 8 years..99% of my county here in Chattanooga, TN have Comcast or DSL but I live on a 6 mile road

where it's still rural, farms...has been a long 8 years riding a tricycle on a freeway..

this higher speed net will help greatly in online stock trading..

    this is sweet!..

    Dave

Hi Dave, I lived in Tenessee for 2+ years, and it was absolutely beautiful. Merry Christmas to you, and if you get a chance, go enjoy Rock City's peace for me for a day :)

  3. Baked Beans and Bacon

2 cans (31 ounces each) pork and beans

    1/2 cup packed brown sugar

    2 teaspoons dry mustard

    1/4 cup ketchup

1/2 cup "Grandma's Dark Molasses" (any dark molasses will work - but this is the best to use in my area of the world)

8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

Drain off most of the liquid from the top of the beans. Place in slow cooker with everything except the bacon. Cover and cook on low 5 to 6 hours. If beans are more liquid than you like, cook on high for an additional hour. Add bacon the last 30 minutes of cooking time. Makes 10-12 servings.

  4. Swiss Corn Casserole:

    3 cups frozen corn, thawed

1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) Swiss Cheese, shredded

    1 cup heavy cream

    2 large eggs, lightly beaten

    Dash pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a sprayed slow cooker, mixing well. Cover and cook on LOW 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until set in the center. Serve right away, or keep hot until serving time. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

*must be served hot as the cheese has a tendency to cool off really fast and separate from the corn. It doesn't affect the taste, but it will not be as smooth.*

I haven't tried this before, and I a going to double it, so I will estimate an added hour of cook time.

  5. I know lots of people have potlucks and stuff for work and family for the holidays. I thought it would be fun to post some of the side dishes (or main dishes) people might make.

I have a potluck at work Tuesday, and I was chatting with Aggr3 about what to take. One of the things I was thinking of was creamed corn with whole corn mixed in and some sauted diced red and green bell peppers thrown in. That way the creamed corn would keep it liquid but not runny.

Well, I went to get a couple small things for xmas gifts because I had a couple of coupons for Borders. (who had a really great deal as well - buy 4 and get the fifth free...) and I found a slow cooker book. It had some really great recipes in it, and I found one to take to work. I'm also going to take another - which isn't new, but I'll share it anyway.

So please, post some recipes that you have for holiday side dishes, maybe someone like me will try them out! :D

  6. $5.97, I am so there. I hope ours has some. You know different ones will carry different stuff. Or was it Walmart online?

It was at the local walmart - in a box with a lot of different dancing hamsters. One had an umbrella and was singing "It's raining men". These two adorable older women were just giggling over them and I asked it there was another of the kung-fu one, because I thought they were going to buy it. They handed me the one I have and said they were just playing, and have a Merry Christmas.

I was felling feisty, I said "Happy Hanukkah"  :buck2:

    They just beamed LMAO

  7. That little guys is sooooooooo cute. How much??

I am like you, I would have so much trouble wrapping and giving it away.  :knuppel2:

I will go buy another LOL - it was 5.97 at the evil Wal-Mart. Well worth it to put a smile n my friends face, don't you think? (That's the friend that is a medic in Iraq and has black belts in multiple martial arts).

  8. Yep, tis the shopping season. Hope it is going smoothly as possible.

I hate X-mas shopping.  The crazy women. They drive me nuts. I would rather go during the night when they are in bed.  :evil6: No shopping cart accidents that way.

Good thing they don't give out a liscence for those, I would have mine yanked at this time of year.

    HA!

I go late at night if it's something I can get from a 24 hour store, then I take a day off work and go in the morning if it is. My shopping went relatively smooth. :D

And yes, I bought those those cherry candy underwear you were asking about.....
