    cholla, You were right about being cold. My flight was delayed out of Dallas Ft. Worth because they had to de- ice every plane flying out. I think they said it was 29 deg. Damn and I thought Ohio got cold .

    Well I'm back home now the problems I was haveing before are gone and infact my connect speed/ downloads have increased check it out.

    I dont beleive its my ISP I tried both NetZero and Highstream. Getting the same results this morning as well.

    We are not having any adverse weather conditions so my telco must have did something.

    My SNR dropped consideriably too.

    Oh well, I'm flying out to Oklahoma this sun  :occasion14: and hopefully it will magically fix itself by the time I'm back

    Something caused my connect speed to drop from 46 to 37.2Kbps :whaa:

    Went around the house and made sure nothing is plugged in double checked my newly wired line everything is secure. Think the phone company jacked my line up :angry5:

    Any suggestions

    Firefox Extensions Problem

    Pacers Fan, Look under tools/options/content the exceptions box at the right should have the name of the sites allowed to install software. The small box to the left is for the warning of the impending installation.

    Under tools/options/advanced there are also update settings which you may have to adjust in order for the installation to take place. Read the choices

    If that doesn't work try the following:

    If you click a web site's "Install" link and you see a message bar that says "Software installation is currently disabled. Click Edit Options... to enable it and try again."

    Firefox 1.5: If you previously disabled this option and then updated to Firefox 1.5, the disabled setting will be carried over. Since the option to enable software installation no longer exists in the UI, you will need to use about:config to reset the "xpinstall.enabled" preference to the default "true" value (bug 310737). Here's step by step how to do this: Type about:config to Location Bar and hit enter. Type xpi to filter and find xpinstall.enabled. Make sure it's value is true. (double click will toggle). Now you should be able to install.

    Remember to close Firefox once your done, for the changes to take effect.  :arrow:

    Pacers Fan,  Right click on the time in the bottom right corner choose Task Manager do you see Firefox running in Applications? If so choose end task.

    What version are you using? Might just be better off uninstalling it and downloading the newest ver.1.5.0.1

    If you uninstall Firefox run a good reg cleaner and remove any traces of it before re-installation

    Kristine, If you want to know if it really is AOL that is slowing you down go to http://www.eskimo.com/newuser.html and sign up for there FREE 2 week trial service. No credit card or such is required unlimited hours and no ad's. I used their trial and had no problems service was excellent. If you fill out the form tonight you will probally get a call from them confirming your account tomorrow. They will then give you a user name/ pass. If your not sure how to set up DUN ask me or another member and we would be happy to help you out.

    t1wireless, Hi there glad you decided to take a look into Eskimo's free 2 week service. BTW you can call them up and reach a representative almost instantly no wait, if you have any questions.

    i wrote eskimo about a dual 64 line and they asked if my line was compatable

    Call your telco and ask if your telephone exchange is ISDN-compatible, if not then you cannot get it.

    If your exchange is ISDN-compatible you must have an ISDN line in order to use ISDN. This line has a higher monthly rental cost than a normal  phone line, and of course, you must pay to have it installed. (however, one ISDN line contains 2 x 64k channels, each of which can be used for either regular voice telephone calls, or 64k internet access.)

    Hope that answers your question about your line.

    Now on to the Line test, Cholla knows more about this than I do and will be able to explain in more detail.

    t1wireless, There could be many factors as in why your connecting with the V.34 instead of V.92

    but I'll only name a few.

    I'm sure you have but did you try out all of the local access numbers available to you?

    Do you own a satellite? If so unplug the phone jack from the wall that's connected to your receiver. Cholla and I have both seen improvements doing so.

    There are 2 or more A/D's on this loop Finnaly saved this for last for hoping it would'nt come down to it. There is really nothing you can do about it either I too have the same problem so you must live quite a long distance from your telco's CO. They say that if you have more than 1 A/D ( analog to digital) conversion V.90 and V.92 will not work. Although I still connect with the V.92 protocol. Also it may indicate a poor local loop which may prevent or result in poor 56k connections

    If you went the ISDN route you shouldn't have to worry about the multiple A/D conversion for I believe its a digital to digital

    cholla, I clear my cache every time after test so not sure why it jumps like that other than network congestion like you said. Web performance as in loading pages and such I don't see any real improvement perhaps because I have tweaked it already before so?

    cholla, It seems every now and then I receive a sudden boost in power. Have been running more test and I range from anywhere between 39 - 57 with 39 being my average sure would like it to stick with 57Kbps :D
