  1. The following is a quote from the mozilla website - "The wait is over. Firefox 1.0 empowers you to browse faster, more safely and more efficiently than with any other browser. Join more than 25 million others and make the switch today
  2. I just ran the speed test on http://scragz.com/tech/mozilla/test-rendering-time.php in both firefox and Internet Explorer. Very interesting. IE takes about 1.8 seconds, while Firefox takes 2.5. Try it for yourself! I'm shocked.
  3. I've been using firefox for security reasons and really love it, but is it a myth that it's faster than internet explorer? I've tested this about 20 times now. comcast.net loads in a little over 4 seconds in firefox, closer to 2 seconds in IE! I tested it on a friend's PC with similar results. What's the deal?? I thought firefox was supposed to be faster. Maybe the new updates I downloaded actually improved IE.
  4. It's loud, obnoxious, annoying, redundant, stinky, suffers from memory loss, crashes a lot, spreads viruses, and when I reboot it, it wakes up with a hangover and starts all over again.
  5. Clipped comment made by poster ..We will not have flaming here! Microwave
  6. It's a joke, man. I was pissed because my computer was screwing up, and instead of breaking something, I made that poll. If you don't like it you can make your own- You could even put two positive answers for how beautiful and rosy Windows is if you want, I don't care.
  7. Yes, but most internet server's are pc's running Linux or Unix. Microsoft has the most money, but they still can't seem to come up with the most stable OS. Linux, Unix, and Apple all create more stable and secure Os's than MS. All i'm saying is, ms should be able to do alot better considering the amount of money they have to throw around. By the way, if it wasn't for MS, we'd all be surfing the internet on Mac's, and complaining about Apple.
  8. I'd have to say I'm the same way. I love certain things about XP, but it likes to give me crap, too. SP2 seems to have helped; I haven't had any spyware for almost a month now (Amazing!) my PC is running better. Everything microsoft makes is a HUGE resource hog, though. I use firefox, and I can have twice as many firefox windows open as I could w/ IE before my computer slows down. I tried linux- it runs really fast on the internet and never crashes, but it's hard to install software and there isn't much software for linux anyway. I guess I'm stuck with XP. At least there are no more illegal operations like with 95/98 (remember those?). I've been using Microsoft since before windows. My family's first pc was an IBM 8088, monochrome monitor, 4mhz, 640k of ram, 32 meg HDD, 4800baud modem and DOS3.0. The only program we had was Works, and it SUCKED. It took 5 minutes for the thing to boot to the C prompt. We've come a long way!
  9. I didn't mean to make it so you could select both options, but then I realized, Microsoft CAN suck and blow at the same time!
  10. Is it just me, or is Microsoft really pathetic? They are so stinkin' proud of their new 'improved' firewall and brand new antispyware, but they are way behind the times with it. Other companies with far less money have been producing similar pieces of software for a long time, and Super-rich Microsoft FINALLY comes out with protection that should have been included with Windows years ago; and from what I hear, their antispyware program came from a company they BOUGHT OUT. (Giant, I think) It just goes to show you that the biggest and the baddest got that way buy bullying everyone else, stealing their ideas and making them crappy. But that's just my 2 Cents.
  11. Instead of having to look through forums for tips and tweaks, it would be cool to have the best ones in a separate section of the site, maybe arranged by connection type using html frames. A separate download section would also be nice. Great site, by the way. You have the most consistent speed test I've seen anywhere, and Van Buren really seems to know his stuff. Keep up the great work!
  12. My Dlink firewall/router won't let me do a tracert, so here's a ping. (coming from the booney's in GA) Pinging testmy.net [67.19.36.6] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=48 Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=30ms TTL=48 Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=48 Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=48 Ping statistics for 67.19.36.6: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 30ms, Maximum = 32ms, Average = 31ms Don't know if that even shows you anything at all, since you can't see # of hops.

I'm also in Palmetto, a pretty small town, so I'm probably not going to get their upgrade for a little while. I've tried several of VB's presets with literally no change in my download speed, but I don't know a whole lot about tweaking yet, so maybe I'm missing something (I did reset everything). I love the site, it's the best tweak/test site I've found so far!
  14. Installed cablenut and loaded VB's recommended settings for my speed connection, didn't help much. Maybe this is the best I can do right now. (I have gotten about 3.4 Mb/s in the past) Still waiting for that Comcast speed upgrade! :::..
