  1. Ok, i've just done the tweaks in my registry supplied by ROM-DOS http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-9452.0 (had the thread in favourites), and i just did a speed test and got.... :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 8962 Kbps about 8.96 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 1094 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/04/11 - 10:10am Bottom Line:: 156X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 0.94 sec Tested from a 5983 kB file and took 5.469 seconds to complete Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Media Center PC 4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 267.45 % faster than the average for host (co.uk) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-1XKNGWE5Y I Thought it was a fluke test, so i used CCleaner to clean everything, and the same kind of result.... I'm wondering if any of them tweaks could have boosted my download to the point of breaking it's cap lol?? The max i've ever had is 6.38mbps.... Dunno whether to be jumping for joy or thinking there is a problem lol
  2. Well after a few weeks of being ill, i've finally got round to formatting and starting afresh, all seems the same to be honest i downloaded a program from one of VanBurens threads (the thread about him being back on 100mb downstream) and according to that program, my max bandwidth is 7.16mb/s whereas my router tells me it's 8.12mb/s, i've tried cablenut, but it seems to make no difference, maybe theres a setting i'm missing or somthing?? I've got no spyware, adware, malware, viruses etc... and all updates. I'm considering contacting my ISP, but if someone could make me a cablenut file for 8128/288 i'd be aprciative thanks for all your help guys
  3. thanks for all the help guys! Sorry for not replying earlier, i've not been too well. I'll give all that a go tonight FallowEarth, Is Firefox as god as people say it is, or would you advice to stick to IE (which i'm using now). I think, to be honest, a full HDD format is in order, its not been done is a long time and i'd actually like to see how things run with a fresh copy of windows on Would it make any difference that i'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition, or does that not matter? Thanks for all your help guys, without you all, i'd still be stuck with slow download speeds!!
  4. i've ran cablenut, TCP Optimizer and ran spyware scans numerous times... i think it might be because i'm in the UK that the pings are a little high, i've noticed that when downloading off most servers, i get about 500kb/s max, but off servers like muicrosoft i get speeds starting at 1.58mb/s then dropping to 870 - 850kb/s, not sure why, but hey, no connection is perfect
  5. I've been tweeking my internet and i've managed to get my download speeds around to about 850 - 860kB/s ish (though the speed tests say it's around 500 - 700kB/s) My advertised line speeds are 8128/288 (bad upload i know) i'm just wondering if thats the max i'm going to get, or is there more tweeking to be done?? I've included my tracert to testmy.net too see it if helps. I've scanned for spyware, viruses, registry errors etc many times, so i know i'm totally free or nasties and i've cleared my internet cache totally. In a previous thread i had, i was advised to turn off my QOS on my LAN connection, but i'm not 100% sure how too. I've also got the updated SP2 patch and all the registry tweaks off speedguide.net. I'm wondering if being on PPPoE limits my connection in any way, when i try to use PPPoA, my max speed is about 300Kb/s so i've decided against using that. If theres anymore information i can post, please let me know and i'll post it Sorry for making this a long post, i just wanted to include as much info as possible! Thanks for any help!!
  6. Also to add, i'm suing VanBuren's Cablenut settings v7, 8000/800 (closest to my upload speed) windows xp PPPoE.
  7. i've done all that you suggested peepnklown and i'm getting :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 5975 Kbps about 6 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 729 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (main) Test Time:: 2006/03/19 - 2:15am Bottom Line:: 107X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 1.4 sec Tested from a 5983 kB file and took 8.203 seconds to complete Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Media Center PC 4.0; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 159.11 % faster than the average for host (co.uk) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-EAP9YQM1F I know i was upgraded to 8mb on the 15th March, so i'm wondering if it's going to take a week or 2 for the line to settle down. but i'm still pretty sure i should be getting a little more than 6mb... my line attentuation is near perfect, though the Down SnR is 17, so i'm not sure if that plays a part in it?? Do you think i should give the line a little time to settle or keep trying??
  8. yeah, i've got my wireless secured by WEP, and my router is showing no one but myself and my girlfriend online.
  9. I'm wired, i've got my girlfriend connected through wireless (both running through a router) but her computer is very rarely online. My Line attentuation is rather good, or so i've been told, so i dont think thats the problem
  10. On the mirrors (Germany) i'm getting: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 4656 Kbps about 4.7 Mbps (tested with 5248 kB) Download Speed is:: 568 kB/s Tested From:: http://visioncorp.plexecutor.com Test Time:: 2006/03/18 - 2:14pm Bottom Line:: 83X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 1.8 sec Tested from a 5248 kB file and took 9.234 seconds to complete Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Media Center PC 4.0; InfoPath.1) Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 101.91 % faster than the average for host (co.uk) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-Q5KXDV6CW And on the other Mirror, i'm averaging 0.7mb or less....
  11. What are the typical Download speeds on 8MB? i'm averaging 830kb/s from websites... i always thought it was in the region of 900k - 1mb, though i'm most probably wrong
  12. Hi, I'm new to these forums I've been having some problems with my DSL download speeds, I live in the UK and I'm on Wanadoo Broadband. I've just been upgraded from 2Mb to 8Mb, but when i do a speed test I'm getting: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 6604 Kbps about 6.6 Mbps (tested with 5983 KB) Download Speed is:: 806 KB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1) Test Time:: 2006/03/18 - 2:47pm Bottom Line:: 118X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 1.27 sec Tested from a 5983 KB file and took 7.422 seconds to complete Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Media Center PC 4.0; InfoPath.1) Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 186.51 % faster than the average for host (co.uk) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-HK7YVWQCR I don't know if this is right, I'm using a D-Link DSL-G604T Router and my connection is set to PPPoE, as when it's set to PPPoA, I'm getting about 300kb/s download max. I've read the top 2 posts, tried Cablenut and TuneUp Utilities 2006. My router reports that my line speeds and line attenuation are: Up: 288kbps, Att: 20, SnR: 31 Down: 8218kbps, Att: 24, SnR: 13 Sorry for the long post, I've tried to include as much information as i can, and if needed i can post my ping/tracert results. Thanks
