  1. its supposed to be 6000, caps at 7200. As I said, it takes  me a second to get there, so its not reflected, but if i test repeatedly, I can get up to 7-8mbit (which is what i get in real life). I was doing 1.03 MB/sec from microsoft.com the other morning  :D

  2. Ran a new line to the modem, put a new lan cable on the modem -> linux firewall ( it was messed up).

    Nettraf is showing 90-110 KB/sec during the upload tests and 880 KB/sec on the dl tests. The download tests start at like 400 KB/sec then go to 880 so that hurts the score some.

    Turns out the modem was being interfered with by the location it was in. Speed is better now. Real life uploads are ~100 KB/sec, downloading at 900 KB/sec, testmy seems a little slow.

    I still have some tweaking to do. Bandwidth meter on my linux firweall shows it going at 800 KB/sec (but it starts at like 300, making it a second slower, giving me slow results).

  5. hanks... Ill let you know what comes out of my post about firmware on dslreports. A bunch of techs for adelphia read/post in the foruns, so maybe there has the power to get me a new firmware too.

  6. yeah, the only problem is a) i can get motorola's firmware, and B) i cant update it. For cable modems, the firmware is controlled by your isp. I would have to get adelphia to push the update :/

  7. You know, i've been thinking. I read somewhere that the 2.3.1.3 firmware for the sb5100 was buggy. I think it was that. I have that same firmware.... some bug about uploading. Come to think of it, i got ~200kbit on my 256kbb cap, ~400 on my 512kb cap, and now ~600 on the 920 kb cap.... i posted on dslreports.com.

    My laptops upload (which is wireless) is only slightly better. prolly not the nic, aren't intel nics good?

  8. w/o load:

    Ping statistics for 66.109.1.46:

        Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

        Minimum = 11ms, Maximum = 89ms, Average = 26ms

    w/ full download:

    Ping statistics for 66.109.1.46:

        Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

        Minimum = 11ms, Maximum = 83ms, Average = 39ms

    Also that has an additional 5 KB/sec upload, as my mom picked up the phone in the middle of the loaded ping test

    and QoS/traffic shaper is off.

  9. Also, my network card is an integrated intel pro/e 100mbit card, on my asus p4p800... should I try putting a different card in? The WAN card in my firweall is integrated, and the lan card is a 3com 3c905b.

  10. I have a fan blowing under my bed where the modem + linux firewall and my server are, as the modem + wireless router felt a little warm. I consistantly get 600 kbit upload (download needs to be retweaked i guess, 3-4 mbit) now that i have cool air blwoing on the stuff.... maybe it was too warm to do good or something.

    thanks for the help so far.

  11. hmm... the anl test under more details says: (the 5mbit test)

    estimate = 3.1 based on packet size = 10Kbits, RTT = 145.87msec, and loss = 5.41419E-4

    The theoretical network limit is 3.1 Mbps

    The NDT server has a 8192.0 KByte buffer which limits the throughput to 438.74 Mbps

    Your PC/Workstation has a 252.0 KByte buffer which limits the throughput to 13.49 Mbps

    The network based flow control limits the throughput to 10.32 Mbps

    Nitro gives me 3.08 dl and says:

    estimate = 3.01 based on packet size = 11Kbits, RTT = 135.67msec, and loss = 7.45712E-4

    The theoretical network limit is 3.01 Mbps

    The NDT server has a 8192.0 KByte buffer which limits the throughput to 471.71 Mbps

    duplicate acks, no pl though. I think the duplicates may be my problem. If i crank up my send window, i get like 960 on the ndt tests, yet i cant go over around 70 KB/sec. Duplicate acks must slow it down.... so if i get it adjusted to where there aren't any dups, do you think it'll be faster?

  13. Hmm. I tried the 8000 and the 10000/10000 ool one. I forgot which one i am on now:

    Something is wrong though. My connection stalls, then bursts. Like, it starts at like 300 KB/sec, bursts to 800-900 KB/sec and stays steady. The upload does the same, but it constantly fluctuates. It gets up to 100ish KB/sec then drops to 70 KB/sec. Kind of annoying. I'm trying to tweak, dont know if it is tweakable though.

  15. I'm running a linux live cd now.
