ya no kidding!!! Thanks ! I would agree that the forums are building stength!! earlier this week we got a really sweet post about the super computer some dude was building!! It may not be related to internet but it seems to be attacting a lot of attention.

How could they limit ports that are on your computer?? I mean doesnt your connection go into a router? Then the router routes it to the nessary ports correct?? So the ISP doesnt have control of the router. Therefore how could they limit speed on the mutiplayer ports. I have never heard of anything like this. Let me know what you find out! You might have a good case in court if they do limit the ports speed.

You on satelite?? Possibly the thing with the mars rover is affecting your speed. Nasa is using a lot of bandwidth on their satelites right now just to get pictures from the little rc car. I would have no idea why you would only get 2kbs. Just wait someone on this forum will have a better answer.

the fastest drives on the market are the Western digital drives that mort posted. They run at 10000 rpm and are on the ata bus. That is moving my friend. Although the maxtor drive that you picked out would proform really well. You get more storage and the advantage of ata. The Maxtor is a 7200 rpm drive so it is about 2800 rpm slower. The problem is that 10000 rpm drives produce a lot of heat!!! But the proformance is upped a little. Overall if you are not moving big files or saving huge files i wouldnt go with the 10000 rpm drives.

Currently i dont believe that there is anything faster then a 10000 rpm drive on ata raid. I know that SCSI has broken the 10000 barrier but for like a 140 gb 15000 rpm SCSI drive you would need to shell out about $600. Worth it?? not really. I dont even know if you can buy a retail motherboard with SCSI built in. ??

Did you download the software?? It is a free program if you have zone alarm you will see a yellow icon in the bottom right of the screen near the clock. Just right click and say shut down. If you have windows XP i think that there is a built in firewall, that could be causing the problem. I dont run windows xp pro so i dont have any idea about where or how to disable it.

That is a good point!!! Personaly if microsoft wants to see what is on my computer and everything else they can just shove that stupid windows logo up their ass. I would then go open source. Although i read some where that M$ was trying to buy out Suse??! Either way open source and linux have come a long way in the past few years. Now you have Lindows!!! the cheap version of windows.

O well we will just have to wait and see. Knowing our luck some stupid ass group like RIAA will show up and begin the hopeless persute of stopping illegal activies. Maybe it will be like GMMM(Give Me More Money).

It is also screaming fast! As for the western digital drives they are the fastest but are limited by their size. Personally ata is fast and an ata raid system would be even faster. So the need for some small drive that is fast doesnt make sense. I would go bigger and just raid them. that way you get storage and the speed.

Yeah i had that problem. I turned off zone alarm and the problem went away.

not a bad system... a few things. Ram the mobo supports ddr400 and you are going to get ddr500?? you dont need the raid card it is onboard. Onboard=fast when it comes to raid it is build into the southbridge so less access time. nic card sucks ass. get a 10/100/1000 card so that you will be complient with the new standards and this machine can scream on networks. Who makes the sound card?? you have the right idea!! it would be one really fast computer!! Love the maxtor drive that are one of the best drive companies out there!

For a modem i would go linksys, aka cisco, or a motorola sb5100. I have the motorola it works with out a flaw!!

I think you are talking about the Palomino core.? It is true that Nvidia based boards are more reliable for overclocking...however via has made huge strides to improve their chips to make overclocking easier. The Asus board that i recommended was the winner of a shoot out over at tom's hardware. This board won due to the easy of expansion and overclocking.

I was reading an artical on pcworld and they are saying that the offical release date will be til 2006 . But there will be an offical beta version that will be released second half this year.

PcWorld some how got these recommended system requirements:

800-MHz Pentium III processor

256MB of memory

and a graphics card with 32MB of video RAM

We all know what this means. There is now way that all of the cool options can be turned on with this type of setup.

You have the right idea accept it has to be and athlon that is the 64 bit architecture. The difference is socket 970 vs 754. The asus board supports the 754 socket. That would suck if you were to buy the 970 socket and that mobo.

sp3 is out for windows 2000. As far is sp2 for windows xp

umm.. i am not an expert in this area. I think that power supplies are made to handle changes in the incoming power. Would this effect the speed. I would guess no. Most of the power coming from the power supply is going directly into the mobo itself. You might see a speed reduction in hard drive, cooling fans, and other accessories that run off the 4 pin molex connectors.

So u want a mobo?? If you are going to go amd i would sugest ASUS K8V Deluxe.

Be be ready to put down another 250 to 400 for the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ or 3200+ depending on the L2 cache you want 512k or 1mb.

If you do get a ata mobo get ata powersupply!! An enight EN-500XP will do the trick. Remember building a sweet computer means that you are willing to spend the big bucks on the small things cables, powersupply, case, cooling!

That is one sweet system... I am an AMD fan but according to MaximumPC benchmarks the Intel 3.2 extreme does get better proformance then the new fx amds. I you want to get a sweet computer for about 5,000 or get a sweet display for about 17000 check out http://www.g0-l.com L computers. This system runs at -21 F thanks to a liquid cooling system.

If you want huge amounts of ram just get your self a copy of the new linux kernal. It supports, i think this is correct but dont quote me, 10 terrabites of memory. Is that enough for you?? All you need to do is find a mobo that supports all that memory.

Yah i downloaded the new drivers from dlink. it is DFE-530TX+. i have tried rwin values no good. replaced the ethernet wire no help. ideas??? i have win 2k with sp4, 2000xp+, 327ram, 40gig harddrive
