Are you running the Wireless zero configuration service? If not turn that back on.

Still not able to connect.. You have any encryption on the network? If you do turn it off and see if you can connect.. Also MAC address filtering.

Music, unless DVD-Audio is not recorded in 5.1.. If you watch a movie do you get 5.1 sound? What you are looking for is audio out all the channels.. which should be a setting in your sounds card properties.

The short answer is yes.. You can do this however, your are going petty much place your computer on two different network. So communicating between them, unless you write routing rules and if the router support that, will be impossible.
To do this you are going to take the Verizon router and use it as the main router, which I think you are already doing... Then on the Netgear router assign it a static IP address. This has to be something that is in the Verizon Router's DHCP range. So if the Verizon router is releasing IP addresses between 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.254 you need to pick an address to use as the IP address for each Router.
Then on both the Netgear and the DLink hardware you need to make sure that DHCP is not assigning over the top of that range. So neither, using the IP range above, can issue addresses between 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.254. This will allow you to use DHCP on the network for clients. As far as using them just as switches.. You can try turning off DHCP on the Dlink and Netgear hardware and see if the Verizon equipment will issue an address.
I attached a picture on how I have done this in the past but it creates two separate networks.

Would you mind posting where they said why it would cause higher pings.. The only reason that I can think of would be that the modem itself is setting aside a certain % of bandwidth in reserve for your VoIP calls. Are you placing a router behind the modem or are you directly connecting it to the computer?

I have used the openOffice suite on my linux system for some time.. I still find it hard to really create decent documents. For some reason it is just so much harder to use than Word. I have never used AbiWord.. One think to check out would be the computability between it and office 2007.. Are you going to be able to open 2007 documents without having to go back to the sender and requesting a 2003 copy..

Nice purchace!! Yeah you really need more than 512 to run vista.. I am kinda supprised that toshiba is shipping laptops that are loaded with vista withless than 1Gb of ram.

Yeah wifi is nice.. but it eats battery like cookie monster. I have read some of the horror stories about how long activation is taking on the att forums.

that is really weird.. The computer ID and IP address changes on each one. Pretty good speed for the EDGE network.

Hey Cable now thats your here i cant do any upload tests as well as some others with OOL or Verizon Fios and anyone else with over 4 mb upload. With the 5 mb upload we have it forwards us all the way to 12159 kb upload test and says forwarding to results page and sits there forever. other mirrors do this as well but not all of them.
My guess is that there is a piece of script that is not forwarding correctly at this moment. So you are placed in the endless loop of waiting for the next test..

Well if the download is 10x what it should be then you are getting a cached test result some how.
As far as the upload test goes I have not had any of the issed that you are all describing. I will try to have damon take a look at and comment here if he can think of anything.

I would be more inclined to ask a neighbor than head off to the local bestbuy and ask the geeksquad for help. However, with all of the free support out on the internet I always do a quick search to find what I am looking for.

169.xxx.xxx.xxx is an error address.. Try the repair function located in the properties window of the wireless card.

They dont offer download off their site directly... As they want you to use the manufacture's drivers that have been tested on their platfom. Seeing as they produce ICs not retail products... However, they do offer a development driver series, that with a quick search of google, can be had and used. The last update that I saw, that was whql certified, was from December 4th, 2006.

Smartbro is wireless correct? Is there some type of base station that you are plugging into the router?
Alright I was able to track down some instructions for ya.. It looks like their network operated on MAC addresses from computer as their system of tracking who is using what.
sir you need the portal to login to your smart bro account. pero you only need this everytime you turn on your router I gave an instruction to some for a BEFSR41 router a while back on how to make it work. I'm sure it will work for you too.
Things you should do to make it work.
1. You need to set your router to auto obtain an ip address.
2. Next you need to get the mac address of the lan card where in the smart bro was connected or installed.
3. Use the mac address in the configuration of your router so that it will trick smart bro that it is the lancard. Mac Cloning.
4. Use IE or any browser to open the portal and login.
5. Once you've done this all PC can now browse the internet.
Also check out marqt2t setup this is the same one.
Basically what you are doing is fooling their authentication servers, the smartbro portal thingy that you log onto... Into thinking that the same computer is still on the connection. Then you should be able to use the router without any additional setup. What type of router do you have?
If you have having problems let us know.. I am sure that someone, if not myself, will be willing to walk you through getting this all set up.

First things first... you can't even get the drivers directly from Broadcom.
You can download drivers from broadcom.. Wireless support is through manufactures..

The problem with programs like that are some of the drivers will not work from the manufactures.. One example is on my new laptop. It has the x3100 graphics from Intel.. I tried to download the latest drivers directly from Intel. However, the laptop isn't supported. I would try to stick with the manufacture if at all possible as there is a chance that the drivers will not work.

If you are seeing packet loss then there is nothing that you can do.. Unless you are able to track it down to your ISP's network. My guess is that the packet loss is occurring on the backbone providor's network. And you can't really call up AT&T and tell them that you are loosing packets on their network.

My response rates are a little better than yours.. but that could be the time of day. I have seen some posts that have, on other forums, that have said the same type of thing about increased lag..
You might want to call Optimum and ask if you can go back to the SB5100 and implement a router based solution for VoIP.. Ask them about this.. I was looking through the specs on motorola's site and it doesn't seem to be any difference between the two.. You could also ask to have your line tested to see if there is something wrong with your line. It is possible that the newer modem has better components and is more sensitive to signal changes and there for is running slower.
