looks like XP with a makeover 

Looks can be deceiving I ran into my first virus with it and the UAC stopped it  that's sealed the deal for me I'm loving vista  .

Have you tried this:

Right click on desktop, click View, then choose Classic Icons. There about the same size as the small ones in XP

Ha I'm surprised I havn't seen that yet  but yea thanks I may do this too.

When I get home I'll try it out and give it a review here.

Oh and by the way..nice find 

I personnaly think manufacturers due that so they can say it's 500 GB (example) but it's not quite that.

As far as I know you can't make them smaller but I havn't experimented much with that type of stuff yet.

Yea right now I'm on my cousins laptop and it handles vista premium just fine and it's about a year old.

Well that is very old and sorry to say the cpu seems waaaay outa date. Us saying you don't need a good computer we're not talking about a computer from 5 years ago but something released within the last 3'ish years should do it just fine.

But yea your ram seems decent since I only have a bit more than you do I think the CPU was more of the trouble.

But the low speed is due to the fact I'm using a crappy wireless router. On our wired connection we get about 9 mbps.

Yea it's worth the money if you have the extra cash. I had to save up since mid summer for it (allowance).

Ha it's all good I'm sure with a dual core XP runs quite nicely but me with only one gig of ram and a 3200+ benefited greatly form vista.

Yes and no when idle it still eats up 25% of my ram (aprox 256 MB) which is not nearly as much as half (512 MB) that it eats at startup it is still alot more than XP or mac.But as I said every program I've ran every game etc has ran smoothly despite vistas large ram consumpution.

of course it all depends on the user/system my computer wasn't the best out there after all I'm sure with a dual core XP would run lighting fast too and probably be much more stable with 2 gb+ of ram vs my 1 gb and of course both the factors would matter for multi tasking +what you do exactly when you multi task.

But I must say despite all I've heard about vista being a resource hog (which it is) it runs much smoother on my machine then XP did and IMO was worth the money for it to not be forced to restart every 2 or 3 days and to multi task 100x better.

Well I've tried a few programs to speed up XP but programs never ran so fast or smoothly with XP as they do with vista nor was the system as stable  and not to mention the startup/shutdown times are amazing but that's just a plus  the eye candy is just a very small part of it.

Well I have an amd 3200+ and an ati card -not sure exactly which at this moment cuz I'm at school- but would they be compatible with mac OS X?

I'm thinking of dual booting my windows vista with mac but don't wanna waist my money on mac if I can't boot it with my specs 

Well if you can't tlel I'm a die hard windows fan but I have been thinking of starting to dual boot with mac though I'm not sure if my proccesor and vid card are exactly mac compatible 

Well I've had vista for a while now and had XP since mid '02 and I must say vista is improved by much. I've read sites saying all vista is is a spoofed up XP but I must disagree.

1. Vista's startup is absolutly amazing xp on my system (amd 3200+ 1 gb ram) took oh I dunno about a minute give or take while vista takes upwards of 30 seconds give or take.

2.Shutdowns are also amazing taking about 10 seconds.

3. Stability is AMAZING XP did crash on me about every 3 days +/- if I didn't reboot it before that I've only restarted vista once or twice and it hasn't crashed on me once yet.

4. Multi tasking is better than ever. I know a 3200+ nowadays isn't the best multitasker you could get but it was decent but if I was running firefox, World of Warcraft, Itunes, and maybe another misc program or two XP was shot after being done with that it'd run quite abit slower till the next restart but with vista give it 30 seconds after exiting out and it's running top speed again.

5. Though it does eat alot of ram at startup and when idle I havn't ran into a performance issue with a program yet.

6. Security...the UAC (user account control) is ANNOYING but it does grant quite a chunk more of security though I havn't run into a virus yet so i can't quite say how much more I'd have to guess alot.

On the stability factor I've never used mac per se I've just been on my friends mac a few times so I can't comment on that but I admit XP was unstable on my pc it crashed on average every 3 days if I didn't restart it but I got vista the day it was released and it hasn't crashed one on me yet. I know it hasn't been out long yet but XP woulda crashed a minimum of twice for me by now even after a fresh install so I'm absolutly loving vista thus far.

Just wonderign everyones opinion on windows and mac. I just got vista and I am loving it so far. I've heard the mac OS leopard is suppose to blow vista outa the water but I find it ahrd to beleive for a few reasons:

1. Vista's startup time on my machine (vista home premium; amd 3200+ 1 GB ram) is absolutly amazing though for the first minute or so after the desktop apears it eats up 50

+/-% of my ram it doesn't last long then it drops down to about 25% when idle.

2. Program startup time is blazing fast compared to XP and is pretty much instant for any program I've run ranging from firefox to World of Warcraft to gunz.

3. Shutdown time is amazing usualy taking less than 10 seconds.

4. Vista hasn't crashed once yet for me and has run 100% smoothly and though I've ehard of driver complaints all my stuff installed just fine.

5. Aero, though mac has it's aqua I just don't think it beats aero.

that's really all I have to say on it at the moment.
