Do you have a friend that you could take the router to and try it on their connection? If it works on another connection, you know the router is ok. If it doesn't, then it's probable the router is dead.

You cannot select the WAP WPA2 settings unless the client side adaptor and drivers support WPA2.
-
FYI, I moved the thread here because the speeds and tweaks are currently related to your Cox connection and I didn't think it made sense to confuse any FIOS users.

WPA is more secure but was a temporary solution until 802.11i got ratified.
WPA will be replaced by WPA2 (802.11i).

This topic has been moved to Cox Communications.

No public project plan has been published and therefore, there isn't anything official to reference for a zip code. Everything official is kept internal and the externally facing telephone number lookup database isn't updated until your area is live. There are a number of unofficial sites on on the grid. See http://www.vfibercenter.com/index.php?module=PostWrap&page=DReports for an example of one of them.

Who would ever need more than 640Gbps anyway?

I suppose it is a bit tougher to eavesdrop on an optical link, but it ain't easy to eavesdrop on a coaxial link either.
I do have the ability to "listen in" on the cable modems, but it is all BPI encrypted, so all I see is gibberish.
Part of my job, I have a Sigtek ST-261 Docsis Protocol Analyzer. Link: http://www.sigtek.com/products/st261/ST-261_Detail_Brochure.pdf
They make equivalent machines for fiber optic links, also.
You aren't going to sniff IPSec or SSL traffic with ethereal and that box.

Does it really matter? I could really care less about the carrier technology. Glass, copper, microwave, radio... who gives a damn. As long as it works and is economical is what matters to me.

hi, i had FiOS 'installed', but was not on site, so they did not connect my router/hub. when i did, and re-initialized by router (selected PPoE), none of my PCs can see the net, but my MaC can! obviously the connection is activated...any ideas why none of my 4 PCs (all Dells; different hw/sw; anti-virus sw inactivated) can connect? my wife is about to kill me, so any suggestions are welcome/appreciated. bk
What router was delivered at install time and why isn't it sufficient for your needs? What router did you switch to?

There are a couple of threads on dslreports.com that are similar although I don't recall seeing an echo problem cited.

I voted Xbox360 simply because it'll work nicely towards helping me justify a HD TV.
-
As I previously indicated, you can have a great host, and suck ass connections to everyone else, and the game could have lag.
-
Microsoft doesn't run the servers...
The servers are used for authentication, matchmaking, game stat storage, post game summaries, bungie.net reporting, etc.
-
If those are the speeds you are getting for the 30/5 plan, something is seriously wrong.
-
They actually do have a 5/5 service but the price is pretty outrageous so you don't hear much about it.

While on my friends fios a few days ago i noticed ungodly pings as well.... especially for fiber.. about 3- 5 th hop was in the 100's tracing to testmy , and tracing to my home pc 10 minutes away was an overall of 98 ms... I dont know why the pings are so bad on fios right now :s
Did you look at the route to see where the problem was?

You can use any DVD burning product that will create a bootable CD/DVD project.
-
The install will not harm either of your drives unless you mess them up trying to repartition or format them. Dual boot is pretty easy and covered in a wide variety of linux doc sources. See http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/install-guide/ch-x86-dualboot.html'>http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/install-guide/ch-x86-dualboot.html for some Redhat notes. You should also spend some time looking through http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/install-guide/

While people like to twiddle around with their machines, you typically won't see a huge gain form the tweaks.

Actually, the answer to the original question is yes and no.
Does FIOS actually work ?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Wow, it's interesting they could not reproduce the problem and come up with a solution. I guess some local manager threw in the towel. I wonder if this incident got escalated to the design engineers. If there is a defect in their design, it will happen again. I can't believe the issue at your location is location specific.
