  1. Here is the confirmation: * The Commercial account has a 60GB cap though, and they raised the price up a bit. Bah, freaking Broadband disaster here in Puerto Rico...
  2. Sure. Its in Spanish: (e) Capacidades de Manejo de Tráfico. All they say is that they will throttle the bandwidth and will put caps or 'quotes' on what amount of bandwidth you can use. "Insiders" say the cap is 40GB DL and 10GB Upload, and some accounts have been banned so far.
  3. Yes Highlander, but quite possibly you don't know, that starting in August OneLink is CAPPING the download to 40GB and upload to 10GB, PER month. I am switching to Dmax next week, that cap is pathetic and needless.
  4. Rammolo... was that serious? 22/23 KBs? We are paying for 500KBs of speed, not 22 or 23. Right now I am downloading at 71KBs off uTorrent. Not that fast but I am getting used to it already. By the way, OneLink's evening speeds lately have gotten better, so I am happy there.
  5. Yeah, look at this, a test I took today at 10:30AM: :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 3775 Kbps about 3.78 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 461 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 363 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 44 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/05/02 - 7:24am D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-FIQ0C5KZG U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-JLBC7SY3E User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 [!] See how good the speed is? It takes a dive in the evenings and nights and it's getting very annoying. I know Cable can take dips like this when there is too much traffic but this is ALWAYS. And actualy Resopa (hehe), most of the island has DSL, except of course some more remote places, etc. I guess 70% can access DSL... but yeah, dial up is shitty haha.
  6. I agree, the speed has been horrendous for these few days. Everything has been screwed up since they started their VOIP and began throttling the P2P speeds have been very slow. I called OneLink and they just said they were restricting bandwidth to allow for "better speeds for the general public". I told the guy they were offering 4Mbps but they weren't complying. He just said they didn't guarantee speeds =), no minimum (so if it wants to be 4KBs download then so be it). Getting very annoying... maybe DACO can do something... (DACO is a consumer protection agency by the way for those that don't know). EDIT: :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 222 Kbps about 0.22 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 27 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 281 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 34 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/04/30 - 7:01pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-VZKROP2EX U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-C2ZFKXLVR User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 [!] ^PATHETIC
  7. I agree with dlewis23, it's common knowledge that Linux destroys Windows in anything server related. It's a truth... serverwise Linux is the king, homewise Windows is king. I agree Linux should be easier to use, but I am sure the developers working on the different distros will make an easy to sue OS in the road. And thats one thing... there are so many Linux distros it's confusing... some of the biggest devs should unite and form one OS to really challenge Microsoft, until then... MEEEEH, gotta wait =P.
  8. Errr... Bryan the post was going fine until the last paragraph =P. Its not that I am a Windows or Microsoft hater, hell I own a Xbox360 and I love Vista with all my heart (awwww), it is just that I wanted to make some points across. I am not saying Linux is the perfect OS either, it has many flaws which are obvious. Also, about the IDC report, it must be noted that it is for 2008 and if the next version of Windows Server is released, and Linux and UNIX, which are very similar in architecture and work technically the same way (of course there are differences) are separated in the IDC reports, which could bring the tally closer to Windows. Right now, if you unite the Unix and Linux share, it is superior to Windows. The report (as many analysts) is predicting what could happen by next year, so there is no sure bet. The excuse of MS bundling software with their OS is invalid as well, as all major Linux distribution add a boatload of software to their OS, even more than Microsoft does. You get OpenOffice, an alternative to Microsoft Office... which reads its documents and is totally free, Firefox... a browser that is also available to Windows (and which kicks Internet Explorer many times in the.. err, butt code?), Gimp (an alternative to Photoshop), etc and the list goes on and on, so that point of MS bundling software fails. About gaming... of course it's stuck. Most developers use DirectX, which is licensed exclusive to Windows... which owns the biggest share, so of course more games will land there. There are some commercial Linux games running in SDL or OpenGL... Unreal Tournament comes to mind quick. There's also Cedega and Wine, which emulate some Windows games with great accuracy... of course not to the same degree of perfection. Also, you mentioned Best Buy, which is considered a mainstream store... so of course they won't have Linux games... it is a very small niche. The most games I've seen for a non-Windows platform is some Mac games in CompUSA. Loving Vista!! (though the March Compatibility Update isn't installing in my PC >_<)
  9. Actually bryanlautt, your views are a little TOO biased, and I am not seeking to start a flame war here. First of all, the reason systems like Linux don't have a bigger part of share are various. First of all there are not many major programs designed from it, unlike Windows who has the backing of a multi billionaire company. Second, most computer distributors don't include Linux in their packages. When you look at servers though, you will find that Linux owns that market, destroying Windows Server. Linux is far more stable and is more efficient, so it's used in servers mostly. Third, Linux is not as easy to use as Windows, and though the community has been working on making it easier, there's a lot to do. There are many more, but I've listed some of the biggest reasons. Also, Mac is a low seller cuz... well... I don't know. The fact is that Windows is packaged with almost every consumer/retailer computer sold these days... and whoever says that's not a monopoly deserves a good punch =P. Also, many people don't know what the hell is OEM, so they will never know they can get the same Vista OS without a $150 box and manual =P. Hopefully this will clear some points in this decade-old debate =).
  10. To me Vista is 10 thousand times better than XP, really. I am very amazed by it. In fact, it has become my default OS, since I used Linux. And by the way, to those fearing Linux... lose the fear! =). First of all, to make it easier, buy a cheap HDD... something 10GBs big, external, internal, whatever... the cheapest thing you can find. Download Mandriva Linux, the easiest OS in my opinion (OpenSUSE coming close second... Ubuntu is a little harder, but the best I consider). Download them, they are free AND LEGAL. Install them on your new HDD... TADA!! Or you can go the hard way, and repartition your current HDD... but you may lose information. Hopefully I will drag more people to the "Open Source Side" (though I find Vista quite impressive).
  11. Yeah.... and there is no way OneLink fixed P2P. I am using Zudeo (or whatever the name is, the Azureus streaming program) and it is being limited to... meg, 9Kbs, and I am sure it has enough seeders. Getting annoying....
  12. And the DSL here isn't much an option since PRT just sucks ass. I was considering Sprint, Verizon's or Centennial's wireless internet, cuz OneLink is really getting on my nerves recently. Hopefully they will lose enough customers to notice they screwed up.
  13. Fix P2P? No frigging way. Still slow as hell... uTorrent very slow. Also, last night download speed was extremely slow, and I haven't yet experienced the so called new 4mbps speed. Maybe if I shut my modem or reboot it it will have downloaded the new cap file or something weird like that?
  14. First post ever here, but yeah, I am having the very same problems. Most downloads keep themselves at bay at around 1-7KBs, but some have gone all the way up to 35KBs and others just recently went all the way to 200KBs, but never passed that limit. Never have I seen those speeds again with uTorrent. So yeah, OneLink is limiting download speed on P2P programs, and its getting VERY annoying. Hopefully many will complain (I'll get to that tomorrow) and they'll revert. Meh....
