  1. I'm getting a good upload (for sat) at 12 to 16KB a second. When they download files from me now using sharing programs. average size of a 3D render I do is about a 5MB picture. It don't take then long to get it. I just figured they could browse an FTP folder, that way I don't have to be home to let them see what I have.
  2. That goes figures, only direcway were the land sounds green tell you get there. I was only going to use it for a couple of friends to check in everyonce in a while and look at some of the 3D renderings I have done. But oh well I will just put them on cd's.
  3. If I had business account where would I go to do it? Do you know?
  4. I set up a home FTP so my buddies can log into my computer for files I have created. Thing is how do I get into the DW6000 to setup port 21 to relay to my FTP IP. Got to be some sort of setup on this thing.
  5. That is the truth, outlook is a bad security magnet. Been using outlook for many years now and still working fine for me. Just don't open any emails you don't ask for, simple as that. I only get about 3 or 4 spam messages a week. That is through my company email address. My DW address has yet to get any spam, I don't give it out on sites either, that is what hotmail is for.
  6. No, outlook does not equal spam, because outlook does nothing but download the email from your host. Any email client would do that! no spam here on any of my email accounts.
  7. I also use dreamweaver MX. For me it is about the same as dialup speed... Can't really tell a difference. 2 days ago I uploaded a 3MB PDF file but I use FlashFXP for that since it is faster on upload.
  8. Becareful with charter and using Kazaa, RIAA really going after people on those. That is if you download music.
  9. Been using limewire for a month now, no problem on the DW6000, just got to keep an eye on my FAP. I usually download small stuff anyways so it doesn't bother me.
  10. I don't know what you guys expect out of DW. I finally got mine installed about a month ago and it is running as followed on a consistant basis. I have had dial up since 1992, and I moved out to the sticks (as most of you that use DW are in). Sure I am getting my a-hole streched and getting it on good but this is what I expected. High fees, not good for gaming, shifts in weather, etc... SURE BEATS DIAL UP! Then again I use to download 2 days on dial up just to get a 300MB file. Now I can do it over night and come home from work the next day and it is all normal and file is done. I don't let it FAP i setup my download managers to push it right to the limit. Anyways, my whole point is to expect what your are getting before you get it! I studied it for months before I made the leap and thought of all the goods and bads. I know some of you want to download as much as you can and all you can, the FAP does suck but I signed on knowing it, just because I couldn't take the fact that I had to wait 5 MINUTES to get a 2MB file on dialup. I did the math, I download many more small files than really large ones. Anyways, good luck taken the ream for the next 15 months and may the DSL god shine on us all someday! Til then I am stuck on DW over dialup..... PS it is raining pretty good here during these test. Signal strenght of 48. On a DW6000 model. :::.. 11. I would go with someone else but I have no other option
  12. I called and talked to customer service, they said it is alright to buy an older DW4000 model and have it activated. They also said the only thing that would stop it from getting installed is any payments not payed for that perticular system. I will just make sure the dude has his bills all payed up and everything is clean. I hope to hear from him tonight!
  13. Thanks for the good tips! I guess I will call DW and let them know I plan to use a DW4000 (providing if that is what the guy is selling) and see if they give me any trouble of not allowing me to set it up.
  14. Yeah, that is what I am leaning towards right now just because I read so much in this forum and everyone is boosting the DW4000 over the DW6000. I have my fingers crossed and hope he tells me it is a 4000. So do the DW4000 require any phone lines? I don't have a land line because that would even cost me an arm and a leg.
  15. Ok, here is my story in short. Live in a very rural area, even dail up would cost me long distance charge per minute. Not having internet is not an option. I run to websites, need to keep them up to date. Here is my delima, I called and ordered DW, the installer showed to install and guess what (NO EQUIPMENT) he says he cant install because I have not received my equipment. DW says it should of been mailed to me. Turned out FedEx could not find my house so they sent it back to perfect 10 (who actually distributes the equipment). Now here it is a week later, still no DW and I looked around a little and found a guy selling his equipment since he cant afford DW anymore. I got to thinking would be cheaper for me to buy his for $100 and have the installer install ($175). Once he calls me back I hope to find out it is a DW4000, since I hear their faster is that correct? Also does the DW4000 or any modem require a phone line? I don't think it does since it is suppose to be two-way. Right now I have the entire install on hold because I am not sure what to do, get the new DW6000 and pay for it brand new, or just get the in working condition used equipment and save money, thats providing it is a DW4000. What would you do?
