don't you worry, its normal. smartbro speed (coz it's wi-fi) is intermittent. I recommend to you this forum: http://www.testmy.net/t-18616.0
-
wow! i hope it will work for others too
days from now i will post what i did to obtain the 600+ kbps speed.
for the meantime, me & the rest of the guys here will do our best to answer questions that will help speed up your smart bro.
-
it's been a long time we haven't heard from the thread starter elijahpaul. i hope he can provide updates too
-
so far i have tried norton 2007, avg av & as, now I'm on nod32. somehow the latter reduced my speed but on a minimal level.
for newbies reading this forum, here's how to tweak your speed:

@ jun101ph
can we possibly make an arrangement of your sending me a canopy default/override plug, if you have any? coz i'm having a hard time finding an RJ-11 6-pin connector.
-
what you will get is the mac address of your LAN card!!!
hahaaaa. yes you are right @jun101ph! i was a little pre occupied of something lolz.
so @ grift3r74, are you ready to climb to the roof?
-
-
Its simple:
Command Prompt
Type ipconfig/all
Your physical address is your Mac address
Forget about climbing to your roof
-
right. thanks
-
thanks. can u recommend a website which will give us an accurate hex to decimal conversion?
-
kudos! welcome to the 400+ club
-
Yeah right, Operators can access our canopy and make some changes on the settings. Although it is risky but you can restore the canopy settings to its factory settings
@jun101ph
I wanted to help a friend. She wants to access the canopy using the Mac (physical) Address. Do u have a post relative to this?
-
If you still can access your canopy, try to reset it to factory settings (NOT RECOMMENDED though), kinda risky
but if there's a need to eliminate the "other's account" setting, make the default/override plug and you can make your own account (username, password). click here for how-to's http://www.testmy.net/t-18617

i don't recommend speedtesting with the Quezon City server. remember that the server sponsor and SmartBro are direct competing companies. if your really love speedtest try the Miri (Malaysia) Server.
of course our first choice should be a test with testmy.net!
-
that is absolutely correct.
SmartBro can't give us even 1 mbps unless we enrol to a higher plan.
On the other hand, what I suspect with the sudden drop of your speed is that there might have been a remote re-configuration of your canopy settings. but i could be wrong.
well, 1st thing's first. try what jun101ph suggested.

@EKANS
I think TCP Optimizer can do it alone. If you're still on it, slide it from 384 kbps up to 3000 kbps then choose what slider setting gave you better speed.
What I suggested (insistently) that a combination of tcpip.sys patch and CableNut would work.
you can try setting it to 50 then do a speed test. if not working, do the same to 80 and 100 but give a gap of at least a day for each setting, have patience.
the connection type is self-explanatory. if your on a router then use DSL with Router (MTU=1492). if your canopy module cable is directly connected to your lan card, then use Cable or DSL - Always On (MTU=1500).

Hello cool Buster!!! I was not able to post for the past few days since I was busy preparing my self since this is first week of my work
oh well congratulations! its nice that you are back!
-
@ heavenandhell
have you tried doing some "system restore"?. try to revert system back to a time before your lan card speed setting screwed up.
-
It's always a pleasure. I encourage you to try all options until you get a satisfactory result.
Update: I am now in the process of finding out which anti virus system slows down Smart Bro's speed. Will be posting (in a separate thread) my observations in 3-4 weeks time.
BTW @ gourame, I have not heard from jun101ph lately...what happened to him?

@coolbuster
I have just tweaked my settings yesterday with the TCPOptimizer and been asked by someone to wait 72 hrs for its effect to take place.
I just would like to ask if i still need to apply the patch you suggested in your link.
The patch, will it not create any conflict with the TCPOptimizer?
Thanks!
Yes. There will be NO conflict.
One more thing, I was suggesting a separate option in my recent post. Please take note that I have not mentioned the TCP Optimizer (scroll above).
This is because, in my own observation, CableNut functions well if there's the tcpip.sys patch as prerequisite. However, Im not saying that CableNut is better that TCP Optimizer. Its just that for a month now, the tcpip.sys patch & CableNut did well for me.
But of course you can try the options.
1) TCP Optimizer only.
2) tcpip.sys patch and Cablenut.
3) Use all.
It's your choice. Observe which formula gave you faster speed.
If the problem is the base station, email SmartBro customer service about your problem. They respond faster in email than in their tollfree line (where most often nobody answers the call).
-
your upload is high. download should be higher. an ideal upload speed is 80% of your download.
tweak your canopy & use cablenut.
-
yeah, the old version is simple and safe. we know that new programs have bugs unless it is declared as stable.
How To Tweak Smart BRO WiFi
in Smart Bro (Wi-fi)
Posted
@ qwertyu
I advise you to uninstall deepfreeze first when you tweak your speed, deepfreeze will ALWAYS restore your pre-tweak settings when you restart/turn-off/on your PC. Deep Freeze serves as a shield to changes in the system as advertised in their website:
"Deep Freeze is the standard in bulletproof disk protection
Deep Freeze instantly protects and preserves baseline computer configurations. No matter what changes a user makes to a workstation, simply restart to eradicate all changes and reset the computer to its original state - right down to the last byte. Expensive computer assets are kept running at 100% capacity and technical support time is reduced or eliminated completely. The result is consistent trouble-free computing on a truly protected and parallel network, completely free of harmful viruses and unwanted programs."
Use TCP Opt or a combination of tcpip.sys patch and Cable Nut. If you're really a Deepfreeze fan, re-install it right after you obtain a satisfactory smartbro speed
