  1. thanks for the reply. i have not contacted HNS about it. i dont assume they will care too much as i wouldnt doubt if they sell people's private information; seems like something they would do. but according to PayPal's documents, your money means nothing to them and if it is lost or stolen they dont care and cant be liable for it. its a shifty world these days and this crap happens everyday anymore. i may look further into it as $600 is quite a bit of money to have stolen out of a "secure" bank account. and about that, the only people who can possible have my bank account information is PayPal.. how suspicious is that? "We are not liable for any money that is lost or stolen" seems to me like they may know more than they are willing to say, and their Term of Agreement protects them from having to say it..
  2. i have noticed that HNS has only a static IP address for the modem itself. well since having my HughesNet internet service, i have had an email address, eBay account, and two PayPal accounts hijacked. within the two PayPal's i have lost $600 that PayPal says cannot be returned. also, charges made to the PayPal account have been made under the name of the other account, which i have not made. furthermore, the account with $500 wasnt address-verified, so that would mean services/products purchased can be mailed to whatever address the attacker wants, and under the name of the other PayPal account, which IS verified and trusted by eBay buyers/sellers. could i have been IP hijacked? if so how can i stop the attacker and secure my IP address, if at all possible. when i had WildBlue the modem's IP was dynamic and so were the each computer's on my network. with stupid HughesNet it is static and is dynamic to my computers. any help is greatly appreciated! thanks.
  3. i just ran a test at 3:30PM and here are my results (very close to what i get everyday from 2pm - 3am: :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 16 Kbps about 0.02 Mbps (tested with 100 kB) Download Speed is:: 2 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 57 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Upload Speed is:: 7 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2008/04/11 - 1:28pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-UG23INVRF U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9IC3672MK User Agent:: Opera/9.23 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) [!] sick...
  4. sig updated to show new speed test. for some reason it was okay when i ran this test, but if i run it agin in about an hour it would likely be really slow.
  5. i dont even really have to do anything bandwith intensive for it to slow down. for example, a short youtube video would load almost instantly; just shoot the bar accross and it was loaded. now, during 2pm - 2am they will load about 2 seconds of video and pause for a while, load another 2 seconds or so and wait for a while again. they seriously load as if i was using dialup.
  6. i used to have WildBlue and i requested help on here before. recently, i moved and switched to HughesNET and for the first few weeks it worked great. BUT, for the past 2 - 2 1/2 weeks, my speeds have sucked really bad. what i mean is everything starts out okay in the morning and then BAM... at about 2 in the afternoon my speeds drop very hard and stay slow until just about 3 am which is when the "free" period begins (from 3-6am). i have the Pro package at 1Mbps (128kb/s) 256Kbps (i think around 30kb/s). during these slow times in the day, instead of being able to surf real quick and download at 130kb/s, i get about 16kb/s MAX and surf speeds are like dialup. i have called support several times and had no help other than that same ol' "well sir, HN has one ultra-high speed bandwith that all our customers share who are on that satellite, so during the peak hours and afternoon you may experience a slight decrease in speed as there may be high traffic." well i understand that, but for weeks it was fine and speeds were consistant throughout the day everyday. it is most frustrating when you pay $70 a month for "High-Speed" internet and get dialup speeds most of the day. now i have read other posts about clearing out spyware and such, defragging, and resetting the modem. i have done it all and it has no impact. plus, it happens on all other computers i try with. also, does anyone else with the same package as i find the FAP very easy to break and EXTREMELY slow when capped? it says on their site that you may notice a decrease in overall download speed and in some cases, a slight degredation in browsing speeds. well that does not cover it...my browsing speed when capped is unbelievably slow, most often 1-2min load time in a full page, and a d/l speed of about 0.9 - 2kb/s. and most downloads larger than 200kb with fail before they finish. like i said, i have the: Pro Package 1Mbps (128kb/s) 256Kbps (i think around 30kb/s) HN7000S Modem thankyou in advance!
  7. so then it is most likely your phoneline, so i'd check into getting updated to the Touch-Tone system.
  8. if you live in the US (not Alaska or Hawaii) you can most likely get WildBlue. They're cheapest package is 512kbps down/128kbps up and is i think $50 a month. Check into that... As for dial-up, go with NetZero, they have 3G for $15 a month and its pretty quick. if you are getting such slow speeds you may have Pulse phone-lines in your house instead of Touch-Tone.
  9. Depending on your location, if you live in the 48 contiguous states, you most likely are eligable for WildBlue Satellite.
  10. You said you are in a rural area and others around you have the same problem. This leads me to believe that the houses in the area are slightly old? If so you may be suffering because of the phone-line. It is possible that it is not modern day's Touch-Tone, and may be Pulse. To decipher this, when you dial out do you have a pause between each number filled with a sound? Instead of Touch-Tone which is beep beep beep, Pulse is beep....beep....beep, kind of a dull ticking sound if you will.
  11. To increase speed and push a little more out of your LucentWin Modem, in Device Manager go to Properties for the modem and in Advanced, enter S10=50 in the box for Extra initialization commands.
  12. i was told a while back when i had a similar issue that there are differences in that speed. Such as, with my 1mbps WildBlue, my download speeds are 100% at 128kbps. So if you are downloading 4800kbps on a 5000kbps, i'd say that is outragous! 5000kbps means 5000kilo-bits per second, and a download speed of 1400kbps means 1400kilo-bytes per second. Bytes are bigger than Bits. Also, the 5000kbps connection you speak of is probably your Downstream, not necessarily your Download speed. It could be your network card. What brand and speed is your router and Network cards in BOTH computers?
  13. not if u have a utility to check ur router's behavior by the way, where can i get tools for my router, it's a NETGEAR RangeMaxNEXT
  14. hmm, thats odd...u would think they would be nicer to get more customers. i like the rolling thing better, cuz u dont have to wait a month for it to get reset, just 31 days and then from there on its one day on, one day off.
  15. justinlay,,,can i borrow ur internet forever?! yea, MOST anything beats Satellite, except for my old dial-up. i like being able to download shit faster than 3kb/sec if u kno what i mean. but i hope as WildBlue grows they ease up on their stupid FAP. :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 1054 Kbps about 1.05 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Download Speed is:: 129 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 99 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 12 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/07/11 - 7:06pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-JPCHS2740 U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-4TLNCPRJQ User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a3) Gecko/20070322 GranParadiso/3.0a3 [!]
  16. i just use GetRight Pro and pause them and resume them in a few days or so, that should work.
  17. yea, it updated, but its only a matter of hours before we're throttled again. will we be dropped back to 128k, or will they be slightly generous and give us 256k? SWEET!! i just checked out the FAP meter and were down at 380mb!!!!!! they did reset it after all!!!!

  19. we signed up with them on June 28th, and the woman on the phone told me after July 28th it would start going back down, so i am right, by August it will be GOING down. until then it is sloww and gay. the other day i did a side-by-side comparison of WildBlue right now and our old dial-up, and dial-up was spankin WildBlue! see we probably used 8GB in the first 4-5 days, so it should be quick getting back down.
  20. well yesterday we called and upgraded to the GOLD package (sorry, in the first post i said Gold when actually i meant Silver) and they said it could take up to monday to take effect. but after a very stressing conversation with them last night over the phone, i see that this wont help my situation at all. confused? so was i. they said the bandwith is NOT reset even when u upgrade, so i am still in fact screwed. and after some calculating, i found that the 80% FAP level they talk about has already been reached and surpassed. see, with the silver package u get up to 7.5GB a month, and with the gold u get 12GB. well we are now up to 9.7GB total, and the 80% mark for the Gold package is 9.6GB, so we will still be limited to 128k until early august, while still paying $69.99 a month for 1mb/sec. i think thats a load of shit. but there is no way of getting around it, and JUST from surfing, we have went up 200MB in 2 days, so i cant imagine how high it will be by august. does any1 know of anything i can do about it?
  21. i think for the money its good, a better deal in mind than DWay. but thats cuz we dont have that much money to spend on Internet, itsa a luxury, not a necessity
  22. i found this in their Frequently Asked Questions page: Q: How does this service compare to cable modems and DSL? A: DISH Network High-Speed Internet powered by WildBlue is an always-on broadband connection provides a user experience similar to most DSL services. We offer download speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps - more than 30 times faster than today's dial-up speeds. We offer upload speeds up to 256 Kbps. The high bandwidth opens up a window to a world of rich content that is largely unavailable through dial-up modems. if its not DSL, than wat is it???
  23. FEAR was alright, but i get a delay in Area51. i found out today were movin to the next package. ghost, are u sure they'll reset the bandwidth total? o, and wat do u mean by Type of DSL?
