I had slow and then no browsing today, but it was after i removed the powercord and cables to move the modem and blow out some dust. (DW6000) I figured i jacked something up myself, but i wiggled and messed with everything for 2 hours now and decided to use a dial up account to contact hughesnet.. I got on the chat support and told them I had a problem... verified my info and I asked if there was a problem at the NOC today? He asked if i was having slow browsing.. I told him I had no browsing at all.. Well he checked and then explained that they had technicians working on the transponder i was on and they hoped to have it fixed later today, well i curiously ran and logged on to the other pc in the house went to testmy.net and ran a test.. Curiously enough the connection worked fine. It also ran at exactly 1000 on the 2992kb test. I ran back over here and told him i would wait out the outcome and hoped that they would fix it soon. I logged off of the dial up and clicked back on... Browsing is snappier and obviously faster than it has been. My best tests as of lately had been 865-900 and browsing lacked that snappy feel it originally had. I am exactly 1 month out of the 15 month contract. Are they just jacking with my connection just to see what i will tolerate? Ive hit the FAP several times lately but I know it wasnt related to that since i hadnt been here all day. Just wondering if anyone else had problems or am i being targeted for some reason? ETA: Now check this out.. .::::::::::.. What are the the proper steps to just hook the centurytel(netopia cayman) DSL modem to the linksys router? it needs to be configured to just work as a wifi WAP? Ive had no luck so far trying to configure it. my Dlink on my satellite modem was a breeze but I haven t a clue to this linksys or this DSL PPOE crap. Can I disable the routing and just use it as a switch? All i need is to connect the Laptop wirelessly to the DSL. So all i need is a WAP, do i need routing?

Is the Netopia sufficiently independent that it can just plug into the wifi router and not connect to the PC? Ill just need to run wi-fi with the new notebook ASAP, and can get a card for the old PC in a few days.

Im curious as to connecting a netopia DSL modem to both a PC and wireless router. The Modem has one ethernet port and then a USB connection. The PC is old and running Win ME and only has a USB port no ethernet. But the Wirelesss Router would be new and used to connect a new DELL Notebook running XP. USB is the only option for the PC unless i add either a PCI Network Card or a PCI wi-fi Card. My question really is just that if the PC is connected via USB will the ethernet port on it still run simultaneously to feed the Wi-Fi Router. Thanks, ChrisM101

Well, Now I know what the FAP is. I used to use Kazaa and stuff to download music movies etc. here and there. Never once did i hit the FAP, But I got a Trial to Napster and I hit the FAP in about 30 minutes. I guess its a good thing. Im pretty much sold on the Napster service but Now I realize how bad the FAP sux. I ve spent less time searching around and more time downloading the music I like. But Now I FAP myself every time i download 30-40 songs. Never had a complaint about Dway until now. I get about 100Kb/s DL until the FAP and then its down to 3.8Kb/s which is still better than the dial up I had at 2.4Kb/s. So now I just Move my downloading sprees until right before I got to Sleep and then right before I go to work. That way Ill have recovered my speed by the next time i use it.

Dway is affected by weather. Its sunny and 100 Degrees here , but yesterday Ill assume something happened at the NOC in Md. I figured they had a storm cause I lost all signal. Also I guess we could be having solar outages from solar flares. But other than that have you tried unplugging the modem, and letting it reset, Or a handy Program like (Reset 6000) will do the same thing from your pc. Good luck with whatever it is

I dont think Ive been Fapped Yet according to the mydirecway records, But I'm not DL'ing anything but music, pics, short vids, and stuff. If you are knowingly going to download files larger than that Id say pay extra. But if not dont worry about it. If you know you are gonna get FAP'd DL it over night, then shut it off for a few hours and let the FAP expire. I think itll reset after 8 hours. So the Only time i thought I might have been FAP'd I shut it down about 3 am and By the next morning I woke up around 11 and it was running back at full speed.

If its the only choice, go for it,.Ive got pretty decent speeds, but cant really game on it due to the latency. I got a pretty decent install, since i hovered over them while they did it. My speeds were about 1mb-1.1mb but now they've dropped into the 900 range. But thats probably due to the fact that the dish is pointing into a tree 30 yds away that didnt have leaves when they installed it. Im not sure that Ive ever been FAP'd or not but the FAP log doesnt show it either. Considering I DL'd alot of stuff one night and thought i got FAPd i just shut the PC down at 2am and when i woke up the next morning everything was fine. I just dont like the upload when Im trying to get a 1mb picture uploaded to my server it takes forever thats my only bitch. That and sometime rarely you just have to unplug the power to the modem to get it to work, But that handy little reset 6000 program makes that pretty easy now.

I love it until some future date when anything besides dial up makes the 7 mile trek from civilization to me

I dont want to burst your bubble but you ought to get it connected and working before you cancel the Dway. The phone Co. here has locally sent and installed modems to people up to 9 miles out. And guess What? Duh it didnt ever Work. So those people who were all excited about getting it were still going without. Im 7 miles out and DWAY is the Only Choice . But if your in a town somewhere Get hooked up on DSL or Cable.

Why Speed it up, Mines been slowing down. Oddly enough ive had it for about a month now. was at 1023 now im dipped into the 670 range. Do you guys leave the DW6000 modem on all the time? I usually do but then end up with problems and have to unplug it and reset it. Oh yeah, does any one use the File from My Dway that is to help optimize the connection? I havent yet, B/c i figured my TCP optimizer settings would get trashed is it worth the hassle?
