  1. very cool... anyone else?

It was making a difference for me... my d/loads went from about 9.6 Mbps to about 12.7 Mbps... but then they went back down. Don't know if that corresponds with any of the tweaks you've been making...

*****EDIT: Never mind the above comment... the scores are much better now... I tweaked again with some of VanBuren's settings today too, but whatever you did to the server is kicking arse... :D Here's 10 almost consecutive runs...

Hmmm... 12 meg upload test?? I didn't know that was there... I like. These are the best outa 3 on 12 meg files...

  7. Touche' speedy.... No, I don't own it.... But I got the next best thing... I have 24/7 access to it anytime I want via remote desktoping or by the keys to the office in my pocket... ;)

Van:  Yes, I need to do some things to it. That computer has some issues and I get inconsistant test results from most sites.... In real-world applications and judging on transfer rates I've seen when people are getting stuff from my server, I average about 10-15 megabits on the upload when 5-10 users are connected and all d/loading....

My download speed varies alot (I think more and more offices are starting to share that connection)... Mostly between 15-20 Megabits by most actual d/loading I do... but again, most test results vary too much to know for sure... ..

But again, I really need to replace that PC... very old.

Yes, Work connections do in fact, rule.... :)

    Oh yeah, Cable:

I'm still not able to test my u/load scores... tells me I'm below 1 KB/sec.... Hope I didn't break the test... :P hehehe....

  10. yellow... not a color i would expect to see in a control room. btw' date=' odysseus, pimpin' sig man. :D i think could replicate all of that except the border (if i had the time  ). is that a pattern overlay? and how u get the holes in the side of the border? (the ones that look liked something very small bit a bit of the border off)[/quote']

    Thanks! :D

Actually it was pretty easy. all you do is make a small jagged shape with your polygonal lasso tool, then place it in random spots over the border you made and hit the 'delete' key. maybe rotate it sometimes, so it doesn't look exactly the same on every "bite".... That's how I did it.

The border itself wasn't hard.. once I made the shape of it, I selected it and used Filter>Render>Clouds then I did Filter>Render>Difference Clouds a few times till I got the texture I wanted... then use Filter>Noise>Add Noise and make sure it's monochromic...doesn't have to be a bunch of noise, just enough to add little white specs.... Then finally, you will use Filter>Blur>Motion Blur to give it the brushed steel look.... I used Lighting effects as well to make it shine a bit....

Also though, after I did all of that, I applied a style to it, and manipulated it untill I found what I liked... unfortunately I didn't save any of that I don't think.... I may have the PSD file laying around so I could make a style out of it though....

  11. where the hell do you work that you have access to this type of equpiment?

Well... I work for a Scientific Instrument service/design company... We are located in the same complex as our service provider, which has a direct pipeline. They have the whole place pre wired... here's their site. They offer alot of different services...

    http://www.ntg.com

    ..." Connectivity

The NTG data network has diverse fiber feeds allowing for bandwidth capacity on demand. Current bandwidth subscription includes multiple DS-3 connections to Internet backbones for connectivity, and multiple OC-3 and OC-48 connections to ILEC and CLEC networks...."

We're pretty much sitting right on top of all that... We're on a Gigabit LAN, and all of the offices in the complex have a Cisco Catalyst 3500 XL 48 Port Switch that the control center configures as we need it... I'd like to be able to do it myself, but they won't allow that, and I'm not complaining to them... They don't really seem to care what ports you need open so long as you are authorized to call and request it (Which I made sure my boss told them I was)....

The picture in my avatar on the left is a pic of the inside of the control room looking out at the server and storage rooms....

  12. My guess is that he edited the post because I see the same thing.. 32767... Interesting that he only has one test results from that computer...

I assure you, Nothing on my end is edited.... Here's another one from today... Same computer.

But I'd be fairly certain that the validation link will again show 32767 (Which appears to be a limitation of the way the site stores the scores in the datebase, to me).

Here... yet another with a screenshot this time. What say ya cable guy? Would that be a limitation in the way the database stores it? Just curious.. not that big a deal.

  13. Yeah' date=' not only that but those dedicated servers really dont require that much computer power i dont think (maybe im wrong). The game's graphics are quite outdated but its still a sweeet friggin game. If you do make a CS server post the ip in the forums and ill play there soemtime :D .[/quote']

Deal... when I get the money together for the new machine and I get it running, I'll just have to contact NTG (The network provider) and let them know what ports to open and assign the machine an external IP (Unfortunately they won't let me configure the hardware firewall or any of that myself) and I'll surely let everyone know when it's up regardless of what game it's running. I'll likely have a few different games installed. That way I can remotely log in with PCAnywhere and run whatever server I feel like playing on....
