  1. Im on the 1.5/384 plan which i pay $29.99 for. Why not Cable? DSL is a new technology which needs time to develop, I chose DSL because i know ill get a specific amout of bandwidth, unlike Cable which is up and down alot.

    DSL service shares bandwidth amongst ALL users connected to the same DSLAM. Cable shares bandwidth amongst ALL users connected to the same CMTS.

    Another reason is that OOL is not available in my area, and that is the only Cable isp i have even considered.

    Anyways, my download and upload arent high, but they arent low either.

    The only downside of Verizon is their Tech support. Sometimes they are good, and at others they aren't. Some of their tech support people don't seem to know what they are talking about, but others sound professional and are able to resolve problems.

    Long story short.. Verizon is a good enough ISP for me :)

    Im supposed to be on 1.5/384

    A 2 star download and 3 star upload is good enough for me

  4. I'm on the phone right now with one of the tech support guys. He's giving me all these bullshit excuses. I upgraded my damn service to 4 Mbps and I'm on the phone with him right now getting 2.3 Mbps. (I restored windows defualt settings) He's saying "Sir, 2.3 is not bad. That's really good."

    I'm arguing with him right now on how I payed money to upgrade my service, and my downstream is the exact same speed. He's giving me those bullshit excuses like, "Well, it's UP TO 4mbps, not garunteed."

    ALL ISP's SHOULD BE SHOT!

    I just now told him that the last person I spoke with told me to call back if the speed hadn't improved, and I was getting about 2.6 at that time. Once I told him that, he said he'd ask someone, and now I'm on hold while he's asking.

    Thats how all isp's work lol. I have my own example with verizon.

    When i go to my modem page (192.168.1.1) it says "DSL Connect Rate (Down/Up) 1568 KBits/Sec by 448 KBits/Sec" and im supposed to be getting 1,500/384. Im getting 1300/372. On that page its supposed to be increased a little for it to actually go your advertised speed, for example when i have 768/128 it said something like 848/230 and i was getting the 768 speeds. SO i called them up the day i got the update and they told me that im getting the 1500 and thats final. I said that im not, so the guy told me that my area of the town might not be getting those speeds. He redirected me to another number where i told them that the down should be around 1700 for me to be getting their advertised speeds, and the lady said "Well im sure youre getting 1500 since thats what i have here, there is nothing i can do about it." so i hang up the phone. If i continued arguing they probabily would have asked if my modem is connected lol. I was very shocked by that so thats why i asked for VanBuren's help on trying to help me tweak it to 1500.

  5. :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 1253 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 748 KB)

    Download Speed is:: 153 KB/s

    Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

    Bottom Line:: 22 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 6.69 second(s)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=SE2PB7LQ0

    much better, would like it at 1500 though. Its just sad because when i was on 768 i would get speeds on 770+ and now its not even close to 1500

    Thanks :)

  6. Im on the 1,500/384 plan from my isp and im not getting the results

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 1100 Kbps about 1.1 Mbps (tested with 386 KB)

    Download Speed is:: 134 KB/s

    Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

    Bottom Line:: 20 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 7.64 second(s)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=ABHE0CQB9

    Upload is fine, but the download is on the bad side. Since its not 90% of my advertised (1350), maybe there would be a way to increase it.

    I used cablenut and the speeds did increase from about 1000 to the 1100. Illupload my cablenut settings, and Van, could you please examine them and tell me what i can fix? Thanks :)

  7. Hi' date=' I just wanted to ask a question which i dont know if ull know the answer to but my family is planning on switching to Optimum Online from Earthlink and I will like to know what kind of package they offer because all they say on their site is 150x faster than dial up, but I will like to know it in speed not how faster it is? Anyone know about this, thanks[/quote']

    It also depends on what type of dialup they are talking about. 28.8k compared to 56k is twice as slow, and i know alot of isp's who compare themselves to 28k giving you a good impression upon them.
