  10. Nice.!! The biggest i've caught on the Grand (near Belwood Lake Dam) was a 18" Brown on what is called a Sanjuan Worm which is no more than a red pipe cleaner wrapped around the middle of the hook, The Best part was my Daughter made it for me, she was 10 at the time. I wish kids never grew up sometimes, she used to love fly fishing.
  11. Anglers rest easy. Fish cannot feel pain, the largest study into piscine neurology has concluded. An academic study comparing the nervous systems and responses of fish and mammals has found that fishes' brains are not sufficiently developed to allow them to sense pain or fear. The study is the work of James D Rose, a professor of zoology and physiology at the University of Wyoming, who has been working on questions of neurology for almost 30 years. He has examined data on the responses of animals to pain and stimulus from scores of studies collected over the past 15 years. His report, published in the American journal Reviews of Fisheries Science, has concluded that awareness of pain depends on functions of specific regions of the cerebral cortex which fish do not possess. Professor Rose, 60, said that previous studies which had indicated that fish can feel pain had confused nociception - responding to a threatening stimulus - with feeling pain. "Pain is predicated on awareness," he said. "The key issue is the distinction between nociception and pain. A person who is anaesthetised in an operating theatre will still respond physically to an external stimulus, but he or she will not feel pain. Anyone who has seen a chicken with its head cut off will know that, while its body can respond to stimuli, it cannot be feeling pain." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMHO does a fish feel pain? No. However ripping a #8 hook through a fish's mouth is just plain rude! I Flyfish and have for several years now using only barbless hooks which are very small in size...down to a 24-28. 1/8 of a inch in length. I live along one of North Americas finest stocked and native Brown Trout Rivers The Grand River /Ontario / Canada. http://www.grandrivertroutfitters.com/Aboutus/pagewelcome.htm Use common Sense./ And RESPECT! Just my 2 Cents.

  13. X-NetStat Professional shows your current Internet and network connections in realtime. These connections are established each time you visit a web page, send an instant message, check your email, or anytime you do network activity that requires you to connect to another computer. They also appear when outside computers attempt to connect to your machine, authorized or not. Information shown includes local and remote addresses, local and remote ports, the status, the age of the connection, how much bandwidth/traffic the connection is using (when the Packet Sniffer is activated), and the program/process behind it. Its kind of like Internet radar, and you can even kill or block unwanted connections. The Professional edition of X-NetStat offers a ton of additional features that are geared towards Network Administrators for their tasks of monitoring and managing networks. X-NetStat Professional contains powerful features like a Rules system that lets you set up actions based on network conditions, a comprehensive Network Statistics window displaying information on network interfaces and protocols, a server that lets you access XNS information remotely, a collection of Lookup Tools (TraceRoute, WHOIS, Finger, DNS, Web Search, Server Version, NetBIOS Lookup, Online Tools, etc), a Port Database, Logging capabilities, transmission LED lights, a dockable ViewBar, and many more features. The program should be especially useful for network administrators, traffic managers, power users, and those concerned about Internet/network security. Check out the X-NetStat User's Manual (under the Help menu) for a tour of all of X-NetStat Professional's features. . Enjoy!

  15. I recently had the opportunity to check out the service offered by Xplornet. I was driving through a quaint little town only 20 km's from my residence when i spotted a black dish along with a few Satellite TV Dishes. It turned out to be VAR for Xplornet. Well I just had to STOP! I talked to the installer there and he let me take there system for a test drive.. and here's what i found. The first thing I did was to look @ the OS / it was tweaked allready,,,,,go figure. Then ran some online speed tests both here and dslreports. First off the level of service is 1 Meg....:/ KaZoom. download speed would not reach 400 Kbps no matter how many test where performed, and on what servers/ The upload speed was Great.....20 /30 kB/s solid. I believe the modems name is surfbeam .? blue in color. So........I looked into the plan....after all said and done 800.00 Bucks was the Quote for hardware and install. One thing I couldn't find a signal strength meter> if there is such a thing with them? Any how,,, overall. I wasn't impressed with the overall picture... / Declined! On a more happy note.::: Wireless is comming to my rural area YAY!!!! I'll believe that when i see it too. :/ Just my 2Cents worth. Have a nice day!
  16. Almost every computer user has different Internet connection conditions. Some users have very high-speed connections, while others have slow connections. Some users have high-speed connections using cable-based technologies, while others have high-speed connection through DSL-based technologies. On top of these differences, some are located farther away from their local network switching station than others and have a higher latency (delay) on their connections because of the distance the data has to travel. All of these different connection conditions make every user unique. [glow=red,2,300]The TCP/IP protocol settings can be optimized for best speed under each of these situations. By default, Windows XP has these settings set in a "one size fits all" approach. [/glow] As I mentioned earlier, Windows has to be abstract in certain areas because of its broad user base. Because of this approach, many users can fine-tune their settings to be optimal for their connection conditions. Doing so will optimize the data transferred so your network connection will be more efficient, leading to high speeds. With a little help from some fine online tools and software programs, you can test your Internet connection and decide what needs fine-tuning. The process of tweaking your Internet connection is not always easy, but it is doable. Caution: Before going any further, you are strongly advised to create a system restore point, so that if things go wrong, which is not very likely, you will have a backup. The next step in the tweaking process is to get all of the software that is needed. The main software program that you will use is called CableNut, which is developed by CableNut Software and is available for free at www.cablenut.com. CableNut is a great program that allows users to edit their Internet settings easily.
  17. my sig says 1G. and it worked for me.. May I remind you this is an Opeating System Registry Tweak... nothing directly to do with the modem.
  18. yes control over the modem... But not the Operating system as this tweak is designed for,. Good to see you are getting advertised speeds..but many are not.

  20. I just re-installed my O/s then installed TCP Optimizer As I always do then performed a few upload tests each showing 2kB/s...Wow I know! Then Added this registry Tweak as below.......... And KAZZZZZAM! a blazing 4kB/s. It is proven to double the upload speed as they say. It's real easy to do . So give it a try [glow=red,2,300]" Yes You To Tommy Gorman"[/glow] Be sure to try the 18000 and 17a00 Values and if it dosn't work for you Simply Delete the Value> registry tweak has been found and tested to improve upload speeds on Satellite Return Systems. The only problem is that it only pertains to certain operating systems, with certain processors, with certain amounts of memory. This tweak requires modifying the registry, so please be sure to back up your registry before doing any of these modifications. This tweak has been extensively tested, and has not shown any signs of being problematic with any system. The details for the certain systems that this works on are below, but don

  22. 600 thats all? I wish i had a scanner to show my invoice of a whopping $1,712.00 TOTAL dated June 10 /04 My dish was installed on the roof as per my request and has not moved allthough I have gone up and tweaked it from a installed signal strength of 65 to solid 72. If the pole is embedded in the ground below the cement pour then it's grounded as well as you can ever get with any 4 ft ground rod. So simply drive the pole 6 to 8 Inches into the earth below the bottom of the hole. Keeping it perfectly Plumb! Gl.
