I think Dway has more than it's share of "ghosts in the machine"....I have had problems with the re-activation when my account was changed from the 169meg cap to the 350meg cap. What was supposed to take 15 minutes took 3 hours plus to setup, and I had real tech support with someone who was not going to let the "ghost's" win!! We basically did the same steps from my console....and again from his console....Finally from my end it started walking through the menu, but got half way and crashed. The tech went to my account removed everything and we set it up from scratch.........this time no problems walked straight through the setup program, and everything is working just fine...e-mail, web speeds all good now! The business support team is really better than the farmed out support! It was worth the $30.00 for the headroom of 350 megs (4hours) and good support. The hold times on the phone have been 3-5min the 3 times I have called, and they fix the problem then without giving you some number to reference the next guy with!

P.S. I think I still pay too much for the service.....but at least when I have a problem now I don't dread calling them, and they fix it instead of transferring me to somebody else.

Well with my new cap of 350 megs, I am more likely to try new software than when every meg was sooooo precious!! I'll look into the browser wars a bit later!!

It's all in the proper tweaks, with the right settings most browsers are too close to call!

Once you get all dialed in your speeds should stabilize mine are typically in the 1100's now.....if only something could be done about the upload speeds.
ONCE AGAIN I REQUEST A COPY OF THE DW6000 SCHEMATICS, IF I HAD THOSE WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD BE DONE!

From the Direcway site. "TCP Acceleration impaired" (thats when your internet connection has had too much to drink
:haha: ) When the DIRECWAY terminal is in this state, some applications may not get the benefit of TCP Acceleration. This is typically a transient state and should clear up by itself in a few seconds. If it persists, try power-cycling your DIRECWAY terminal to see if it recovers from this state.
Web Acceleration inactive...
This is the normal Web Acceleration state when you are "not" actively browsing HTTP based websites. Your terminal will automatically bring up the Web Acceleration connection when you start browsing HTTP based websites.
Note: Secure HTTP (https) traffic does not use Web Acceleration. So if you are only accessing a secure site (such as an Online banking site), Web Acceleration may be Inactive.
This usually clears itself up, but the old power on and off trick will clear any states stuck in a static condition.

A few days ago I changed over to the small biz account, so I thought I would check my FAP Cap to see how I was doing........and to see how close FAPMON was to being an accurate monitor. I went to log on and (big surprise) my account was reported as disabled!
NOT GOOD! I called the small biz support line, got someone with about a 30 second wait, much better service than the residential accounts! Anyway I told the tech about changing over a few days ago and wondered if there was a problem......he tried to log on with my name and password and got a message that said system will be down for upgrades until Tuesday!! TOO BAD THEY DIDN'T SEND E-MAIL NOTICES OUT OR POST A MESSAGE ON THE LOG IN PAGE SO THE CUSTOMERS KNOW WHAT'S UP!!
The tech said he needed to access the same webpage as I did to see how I was doing with my FAP Cap......but he did confirm that I was indeed changed over to the small biz account......then he said he could tell because they changed satellites......finally getting to the point here......
How can you tell what satellite your on? My frequency has definitely changed!

DAP was my second choice, Download Studio was what I went with.....They are handy utilities to have....they can stop and start downloads when you want and they get fairly good speeds.

Those are good speeds for Sat Service.....compaired to any land line like DSL, or Cable, we are a slow boat......but if you never had anything other than dial-up before...well then Satellites are not so bad!!

The business package does not do anything for your speed, it just ups your FAP cap to 350 your recovery rate to 57K......Plus US support team! and shorter waits for service!

I live in Oregon, and everyone knows about the rain in the pacific northwest.....I have had rain pouring down, and not had any signal problems.....but If there is a real heavy fog or mist like the kind you can cut with a knife......then my signal and speed get knocked down noticeably....go figure??

OK try this, use your google accelerator go to a website that has some utility with a 30 day free trial...something with a file size in the range of 20-30 megs...download it with and without the accelerator...post your results......you will see that the compression is only for text browsing speed....pictures won't be as fast because there is not a lot of room for compression. Google uses caches, multiple servers and threads to get there speed up......do the test let me know how it works out......nothing ventured nothing gained! Good learning experience!

I have IE all tweaked for my needs and it integrates well with McAfee virus checker....my speeds are as good as I am going to get with Dway so a different browser is not going to get me but a few Kbs more anyway.....as soon as IE 7.0 is released with the tabs and internet speed monitor I'll be happy Buzz

I kind of feel the same way....I was told my FAP was 169megs (4hours) ....but the LIE I WAS TOLD WAS ONCE YOU HIT THE FAP YOU GET 56K DIAL-UP SPEEDS UNTIL YOU LET YOUR CAP REPLENISH!! Wrong got cut off!!
I ran over the cap in 31minutes... I was downloading an application and at 171megs it just shut down......I thought I could just go to bed and in the morning ......like a slow dial-up connection it would be done, then I could let the cap recover.....not the way it works with Dway......so I wasted my time for nothing.....the servers at Dway don't support resume so I couldn't restart the download from where I left off.....It was start all over again!!
OK now the GOOD NEWS
:D Instead of getting mad I made these changes, and things are sweet for me now! First my new box gets stable speeds. (see tests below) So with my ability to download a meg every 6-8 seconds I can hit the residential fap in no time. This no longer meets my needs, so I upgraded to the small Biz package....ouch in the pocket book!
:D :D :D This is what I got for my $30 Bucks!! My new cap is 350megs (4hours), my recovery time is 57k.....AND THE BEST PART IS AMERICAN TECH SUPPORT!! You don't have to wait 15-20 minutes like you do for the residential accounts, the average wait time has been 5 minutes. They can understand you and you can understand them.....no more farmed out India tech support for me!!The second change was I bought download studio it allows you to stop any download and resume it at your convenience so I can stay away from that annoying FAP cap!! It also does muilt thread downloads up to ten if you have the bandwidth....even using a single thread it does some kind of compression and averaging thing that makes your downloads faster! Look at the file I downloaded below 39.8 megs in just under 6 minutes with DownloadStudio!

They must be working on the system....I got to do the download test vote, and it match's another site I use as a reference point for testmy.net's speed test....so I gave them a thumbs up,

Whats up? I can't vote on the upload speed test.....when I got to the place to vote no buttons where available to select to register my vote.....but unfortunately the test seems right I get 3-9 kbs upload.....averages being 4-5!

A good download manager will help you even things out, they usually get faster as time goes buy.....like starting at 80-90kbs and ending up 112-120kbs if the server you are pulling from supports multiple threads you can pull 4 threads at faster speeds than you can just one ususally.....
