Help with RR

I downloaded cablenut and ran the ccs file from version 2 of the cablenut settings,  MSS 1460.  I tried a couple of them to see if my speed increases.  It doesnt 

Any help..

ok do a trace route to testmy.net and post it here please, also are you using a router, and is your modem connected to your computer via ethernet or USB? also post an upload test. Also try the 2992 size download test. the 748 is way too small for 5 mb.

Also were you sure to reboot your computer after applying the settings file.. that's most important.

Yes I am using a router.  the modem is connected via ethernet. 

I tried the download test with 2992.. .it was around 9x faster than 56k

OK go into your device manager, (right click my computer, properties, hardware tab, Device manager, network adapters, choose your current adapter, Right click -properties, Advanced Tab, Check to make sure Linkspeed/duplex is set to Auto.

ok do this First take your router completely out of the connection, connect directly to the modem for one test and do both upload and download tests. then post both results here.

Upload looks good but download is still low, try powercycling the modem. and test again.

On your router, make sure you dont have a QOS setting, MOST all new routers have a QOS Setting, make sure you disable it or the router will slow you down ALOT.

QOS = Quality of Service

Yes it could be peak usage or one other reason, since you have a router, do you have a second computer connected to your router? if so that one may be using the bandwidth for some reason. I did

check your test history and for most of last night you were getting download test speeds of 4500-5000 which are all excellent for your connection. Also a big factor in overall speed is latency, if it normally takes say 30 ms for you to reach a site you could easily download at full speed. however if that same site due to net congestion etc now takes 300 ms to reach you may lose 2/3 of your speed. easily maybe more.

Definitely could be better.  Notice that the first hop (to the modem) is very high.  I would try forcing your NIC to half-duplex and 10Mbps/10baseT.

I think I found the problem with the huge variation in your speeds. Look at your traceroute especially hops 7, through 10. Do you see the huge spike in ping times?

it reaches 2364 ms at one point. That's 2.364 Seconds. Times for that should normally be in the 30-50 ms range. with total trip time being only 200 ms on average.

and Bandwidth is limited by latency. I'd stay with the settings you have now though, they are optimized for the rest of the internet and being a little slower through a few bad nodes isn't too bad.

Makes me wonder if your connection was in use when you did the trace, were you downloading, using a p2p app, browsing the web etc. while doing the trace route?
