cdf216 Posted December 30, 2005 CID Share Posted December 30, 2005 Also I went over your recent test history and noticed something. you are testing with different size files every time. That's a sign you are just clicking the "Smartest". Don't, Instead you should click the 2992 test. that will choose a larger test if needed. I am concerned about the huge variaton in speeds thouigh you have gone from 4800 kbps to as low as 100 kbps in same day. Almost like something was using your connection for something else. When was the last tme you ran a virus scan, adware scanners etc. When testing you have to make sure that nothing else is using the connection, no downloading, no browsing, no windows update, no messengers, no p2p applications. tobeornot Posted January 2, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 Hi guys... I am still having problems. I am starting to think it might be that since I live in an apartment.. all others are hogging the network bandwidth.. and plus I have tv connected with Time warner.. maybe that affects it. Do I need to get a booster or something?? here is my latest trace route without using router Tracing route to testmy.net [67.18.179.85] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 66 ms * 58 ms 10.41.160.1 2 68 ms 57 ms 61 ms pos2-0-nycmnyk-ubr5.nyc.rr.com [24.29.98.145] 3 56 ms 56 ms 49 ms pos0-2-nycmnyk-rtr1.nyc.rr.com [24.29.98.141] 4 60 ms 55 ms 38 ms pos0-3-nycmnyrdc-rtr2.nyc.rr.com [24.29.98.9] 5 96 ms 67 ms 63 ms so-9-1.car2.NewYork1.Level3.net [4.78.166.81] 6 42 ms 50 ms 85 ms ae-1-53.bbr1.NewYork1.Level3.net [4.68.97.65] 7 117 ms * * as-0-0.bbr2.Dallas1.Level3.net [64.159.0.137] 8 114 ms 77 ms 108 ms ae-23-56.car3.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.68.122.175] 9 104 ms 145 ms 122 ms 4.78.220.10 10 146 ms 194 ms 343 ms vl31.dsr02.dllstx3.theplanet.com [70.85.127.30] 11 225 ms 192 ms * vl42.dsr02.dllstx4.theplanet.com [70.85.127.91] 12 * 100 ms 105 ms gi1-0-2.car17.dllstx4.theplanet.com [67.18.116.85] 13 135 ms 115 ms 99 ms 85.67-18-179.reverse.theplanet.com [67.18.179.85] Trace complete. cdf216 Posted January 4, 2006 CID Share Posted January 4, 2006 your main problem is a huge latency problem. Your first hop should be no more that 3 to 5 ms. it's actually timing out. that shouldn't happen. try checking the level of your modem. also call your provider and have them check your connection from their end. your problem is a hardware issue. FallowEarth Posted January 4, 2006 CID Share Posted January 4, 2006 Have you tried connecting to the modem with another ethernet cable or another PC?
tobeornot Posted January 17, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 17, 2006 Hi, Today the RR person came and took away an old modem and replaced it with a new one. though the speed is still somewhat same.. I did some tests, I am connected direct through my cable to my computer. same results.. but funny thing is.. if I connect direct then any of the p2p seems to be fast. Is there any settings in the router that I can configure??
