I ordered my 7000 upgrade on 11/18/2005. I went on a trip and when I got back my new modem was here, however my internet was not working with my 6000unit.I assumed I had to plug the new modem in. I did and tryed to register with no luck. After a few hours on the phone with dway they concluded that my satellite needed repair. So today when the sub contractor arrived we found the problem to be the wire running from the side of my house to the satellite he replaced it for $60 and commisioned my 7000 for me. When he left I noticed my speeds were sloooooooooooooowwwww.I called tech support and the told me to adjust my internet settings. I did and that helped browsing, but I am still getting horrible download speeds whats up?

What sat are you pointed at?

Seems many are having problems with the latest money maker Dway has released. You could mount a 4m dish don't think its the fix...save your money. If the speeds are good in the morning obviously the .74m is fine, problem is on the Dway end.

Speeds are dropping at night on most of the sats.  Try the speed tests during the day tomorrow.  Sounds to me like your installer was just trying to sell you more stuff.  The 4000 modems are not the best.  They do have the fastest downloads, but that is mostly due to them not having internal bandwidth controls like the 6000 and 7000 series.  Uploads will be slower than a 6000 with a 4000.  You could upgrade your dish and transmitter and keep the DW7000.  I don't think it will be necessary.  You do need to tell us what sat you are on.  Hopefully they will work all these bugs out soon.

I also noticed im running at 1 watt, should that be higher?  The contractor also said that the 7000 did not like the 4000 sat today. I asked him what was the best and he recommended that I get the .98sat and 100month plan which he would sell me for 800 or so new.  When we were talking he said he thought the 4000 modems were the best with the commercial .98sat (I guess the 4020's? he said thats what all the 4000's that were upgraded to 6000 became) I saw one on ebay for cheap with the lan ports that looks like the best deal to me.

He's probably toying with you. I'm sure the 7000 does not like the 4000 dishes, but there's no nead for you to get a .98 one. I can see he said he "recommended" the .98 dish, but unless you're a small business owner and use the system a lot for uploads, vpn, etc. you don't need the .98. Ask to get the .74.

You are on the infamous satmex 5.  My recommendation is try to get repointed, or try to get on transponder 1270.  People seem to not have any problems on that one.  I would still recommend doing the test tomorrow during the day 8:00am to 3:00pm to see how it runs then.  There is a bottleneck problem at night, and speeds are slow during this time. (4:00pm to midnight)

Can you say oversold?

Ooops.  I'm on IA8.

About the recomendation for a larger dish, don't do it unless you're in an area notable for low signal strength.  Personally, I run with a 1.2 meter dish, but that's to keep my uplink during bad weather, and I paid quite handsomely for that perk.  You'll see no difference in performance speed-wise with a larger dish, assuming your dish is pointed correctly.

Not oversold, unprepared.  I still think the bottleneck is at the NOC.

If it were because of oversold bandwidth, speeds would have been gradually been decreasing every night while they kept overselling.  This problem just started happening suddenly.  One night every thing was great, and then BAM, 300k the next night....

Not sayin im right, but thats just my theory...

The only time I relly have spped problema ia around 2am and I fix that by connecting my modem to the computer instead of the router. D7000 does not like to do a spped test connected to routers it seems. I am no subject matter expert, only stating from personal observations. Sure wish ther was a way to bump the wattage on the system up to about 4 or 5...

The router is LIKKSYS wireless. I connect to the route downstairs, my son uses the wireless with his laptop or his computer upstairs. At the 1am to 3am centeral time (Texas) I cannot seem to share Bandwith. The kid is usually downloading stuff overnight (no, I checked I'm not getting FAPPED)

I never have tried reloading the setup disk for the route since I connected to 7000.

I have not done any checks at the time frame you mentioned but I can say that I cannot check my speed on this site at any time of day connected to the router, I have to be connected to the modem.

I agree DIRECWAY does not live up to their hype, but out in the country they have a great advantage... Our only other option is dialup and that option creats a strong desire to commit suicide when connecting to the internet.

Crispy Niggets,

91 signal strength is great, however--and I don't want to confuse you more--what is your cross-pol #? Type or click http://192.168.0.1/fs/registration/setup.html in your address bar, then click antenna pointing, click next (without selecting anything) make sure "Perform ACP" is checked, then click next, and now you can choose Auto or Manual, the difference is Auto test and gives you a number, manual, runs the test constant and will give you a reading of what your cross-pol number is real time, kinda like signal strength will, it will go up and down as you watch it. I'd run a manual, then make sure it shows that it passes. If it passes, hopefully at least in the 65-70 range, you are good to go. But it sounds like you shouldn't have anything to worry about, the slow downs you have I believe are normal, Direcway speeds.
