thank u fallow earth for ur reply

yes i get fluctuations in my speed but to wild limit i.e., instead of 256kpbs(rated) iat times get only 95kpbs  Moreover the transfer rate doesn t remain constant at all During heavy downloads it affects me very much drooping to just 12KPBS in dialup itself i had abt 4-5KPBS then wat s the point in having the broadband connection dude?

Pls help me to finetune my speed so that i ve a somewhat CONSTANT SPEED &TRANSFER RATE during most of the times of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

u see i just want to set it right ok dude !

as u told i carried out ht eone told by u & i ve no knowledge of identifying  which all processes r hogging my speed so i m posting it for ur perusual  hav a look at it & post ur comments pls

            SVCHOST.exe

here are some processeswhich i think may help u many PID s in the cmd window dont show up in the task manager window & some some procces r repeated many times eg., SVCHOST.exe

                   pls post  comments

hey dude

i do know basics of duplex man  but my q is relation betwn the alarm info & ur advice i.e., "See if you still get this alarm if you raise your modem one foot above your comp?"

Can this prob be rectified by placing the modem as u said? or, r there any other alternatives??????????

Before you relocate your modem, the duplex setting between your Nic and modem matches. After relocation, nitro test raised the alarm of a mismatch. My guess is that the switches in your modem are being affected by electromagnetic interference.

This may also explain the wild swing in speeds.

Since your comp table is cluttered with many items, you may want to place your modem on the floor directly below your computer tower. Cables from the wall runs along the floor to your modem and then a cable from your modem up to your comp tower.

Later, you may be able to find a low support for your modem so that humidity will not affect it.

hai trojers

Now i had my modem on the floor right under my comp table & i tested the speed

Sorry dude the same results as

          Any comments please

See if this adjustment to your Nic will work.

Windows 2000 or XP: to change to auto-sensing:

    * Open Control Panel.

    * Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.

    * Identify the icon for your cable modem connection: usually Local Area Connection.

    * Right-click that icon and select Properties.

    * Under the ethernet adapter icon, click the button Configure.

o Click the tab Advanced to bring it to the front:

+ In the Property box, the property name to be selected varies according to model of ethernet card. Examples are: Network Link Selection, Media Type, Connection Type, Duplex Mode, or any similarly-named property which can have Values looking like Auto-Negotiation, or 10BT, or 10BaseT.

+ In the Value box, select a value for auto sensing or something similar.

o Click OK to exit the Adapter settings.

    * Click OK to exit the Connection properties.

hai  trojers

        how r u ?

sorry for not replying u yesterday night man!

today morning i tested like u said i changed that setting to 10Mpbs/halfduplex then 10Mpbs/full duplex but nothing changed really  the same result awaited me with the nitro site but the speeds r nearly above rated i.e., they were 315kpbs(1st time) 285kpbs(2nd time) with testmy.net Even i made my mind to replace my modem with ISP as u said

now (10:06pm)i checked it again man i m really taken aback with the result which r as follows

what is really happening ? i culdnt understand both during my tests (in the morning & now) the modem wasn t relocated i.e., it was right under my comp table

do i have to replace modem with a new one??????????

Other possible cause is poor telephone line or loose line connection.

CA3LE has posted some comments about this here:

If possible, do some visual inspection of your cable or phone line within your house to the junction box outside your house..

hi trojers

i ll check telephone line already it will go into problems when it s heavily raining so i used a PVC tape to wrap around hte broken line may thats the prob i hope

i ll look into it &revert back to u once when its checked

                      thank u !!!!!!!!

You can always try booting into safe mode w/ networking to see if the speeds fluctuate as much as the do in normal mode.  If they do, you can pretty much guarantee its on your ISP's end.  If they don't,then it's something(s) on your PC.
