fikester Posted February 20, 2006 CID Share Posted February 20, 2006 DO it right, do it yourself need a 2 3/8" pole.......dig down depending on where you live, here the frost line is 24" deep. Myself dug to around 36" x 36" hole but I get free crete. Then drill a few holes 1/2" or bigger near the bottom of the pipe to assure the concrete flows in to prevent the pipe from turning.(also good idea to fill pipe up, keep 2" or more below the top) Then level up the pipe as precise as you can get.....let the crete dry for a day or so depending on temp. Depending on the hole size 3-5 bags of sack crete will be an over kill for the job. -- keep crete stiff for easy leveling (other than filling the pipe) -- if your not going to set the pole deep enough it will move with ground freezing and thawing -- small skimpy hole, don't waste your time. (I can picture an installer digging a hole 6" deep with 1 bag of sack crete.....too me this would not be worth a dime and cost you the time of redoing the entire job as well as the re-point if you cant do it yourself.) tommie gorman Posted February 20, 2006 CID Share Posted February 20, 2006 Frost line can be determined by checking with local codes administration. I prefer to put 1/3 of pole in ground. Don't need to drill holes because you can pour rock mix concrete and then push pole into concrete mix ther by filling bottom up. Then I fill pipe with a sack of sand mix, which is easier to pour. Have had to set some fencing for rental houses. They like to hit with cars. Heavier guage pipe with same pipe O.D. is sturdier. In this case 2 3/8 is fence corner post size. So you could actually go to the hardware store. And don't forget the top cap. You would prabably not need to fill unless you might run into it with some force. Fence pipe is also galvanized. Probably get pipe for under $10. Top cap will keep water out which is how most fence pipes rust out first. Inside out. I think corner posts come in 9' or 10'. If you do not have a cheap level, a string with a rock tied to end will work. Like a plumb bob. Just hold beside pipe and let dangle till it stops and there is plumb. ;)

tommie gorman Posted March 1, 2006 CID Share Posted March 1, 2006 I just use the Revs. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1703 No cable-nut. And Bird fan is the one it bothers. Nothing bad meant by that either. But I did learn by him that bursting is cool though, just not technically proper for most people. As long I use large file to test in, it's ok in my book. Cable-nut actually messed my speeds all up a couple of days ago so whipped it butt out of my computer, and am running fine. You have to read the Rev's post word for word. It does work for some people. Justinlay has a little different optimizer, I have to test it next. You never know! The Rev's does not have a speed guage. Probably an older version. Here is the newer version: https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php By the way I have been bursting beatifully for about a month now. And here are the instructions: https://www.speedguide.net/tcpoptimizer.php Good luck testing!

tommie gorman Posted March 2, 2006 CID Share Posted March 2, 2006 The way I speed bursting,"Quote by tommie gorman". Uploading is kind of like filling a large wheelbarrow. Takes quite a bit of work to fill it up. Downloading is kind of like dumping that large wheel barrow. You get a lot of work done. But when the weekend comes and it is time to play(in this case surf (no D/L or U/L) it is kind of fun to hop in your Porsche and just cruise. So all in all if I get consistent speeds with large D/L files, and my pages load faster, man i am just COOL. And "Connection is:: 1203 Kbps about 1.2 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB)" is a very respectable speed burst for a DW 6000."Quote" For the other 1/2 of us, speed bursts and fast page loading is just plain cool. Each to their own opinion and nobody is actually wrong. Unless you feel you have to be politically correct. Then you win and I concede to you being correct, as I always tell my wife when she is in an argumentative mood and wants to be right. But in my mind we know I am not listening. So for those who are enjoying their speed bursting, enjoy it no matter what somebody else thinks. Once again i would enjoy a Blower on a large cubic inch engine. Others would enjoy a turbocharged 4 banger with total electronic control. Each to their own. And just let it be that way please! And yes it is fast if that is what they want it to do. tommie gorman Posted March 2, 2006 CID Share Posted March 2, 2006 Started testing at midnite figuring net would be pretty much dead. Tried version 5-8, and found that version 7 did the best job. They all did pretty much an equal comparison. Same with TCP and cablenut combo. When I got on next day, my speeds had wigged out. When I got back to TCP Optimizer only things had pretty gone back to normal. Decided to leave it that way. I think that some computers run better with different setups. mine just seems pertial to TCP Optimizer. But thats ok.
