ice Posted January 15, 2004 CID Share Posted January 15, 2004 What exactly are you "tweaking" all the time? You do know that sooner or later, you will hit a point when nothing will get any better. If you only beat it by like 50kb/s after you "tweak", its coincidence. It only took me about 2 days to find the RWIN that works for me. Sometimes I still beat records, but it's coincidence. lorne Posted January 15, 2004 Author CID Share Posted January 15, 2004 Ice There are tons of tweeks to do besides your RWIN, you can tweek all types of stuff in your windows registry. And if i tweek something and go test consistently faster even if its only around 50 Kb/sec faster, how is that coincidence A record is a record no matter how you look at it

ice Posted January 15, 2004 CID Share Posted January 15, 2004 I know there are other things to tweak. So if you test, you always beat your older score? I didn't know that, you only posted one test. RWIN is still the biggest factor though. What is yours set at?

lorne Posted January 15, 2004 Author CID Share Posted January 15, 2004 Ice After I try a new tweek, I test 10 times and make sure my average sdeed is higher than it was before. All tests are done at the same time at night so i know whether that particular tweek is good or if it sucks So yes when i post a new record that means that i can consistently beat my old one. From now on I will post a couple of scores at a time, Good point btw. My RWIN is set at 64240 I'm capped at 8 Mb down so i have got a little ways to go before i hit that wall

knightshade37 Posted January 18, 2004 CID Share Posted January 18, 2004 Long range wireless is a hole different story for tweaking. When you are talking 6 miles between me and the access point there are alot of variables SNR signal to noise ratio is a big one at this range, line of site is even more important and a host of other things cell phone towers cause interferance so channel settings are also important. Then of course pc registry and the list goes on.here is my last test droped my firewall to verify the test. All said not a bad connection. ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 1932 Kbps about 1.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is: 236 KB/sec Auth Code: 2028981 (validate a http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 34 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 4.34 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&num=2028981&kbps=1932&gen=gen&a=9.71428571428571&b=0&c=1145.14285714286 ::: Upload Stats ::: Connection is: 1219 Kbps about 1.2 Mbps (tested with 1000 KB) Upload Speed is: 149 KB/sec Auth Code: 268286 (validate a http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 22 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 6.87 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&num=268286&kbps=1219&gen=gen&a=9.71428571428571&b=0&c=1145.14285714286
lorne Posted January 18, 2004 Author CID Share Posted January 18, 2004 knightshade Yeah from what i have read wireless tweeking is a whole different story. All that you mentioned above + some high latency can make it pretty hard to get good speeds. Looks like you have got it under control though Sweet upload

MICROWAVE Posted January 23, 2004 CID Share Posted January 23, 2004 Well I guess I'll put in my 2cents worth in,I believe rwin is one of the easiest things to adjust to achieve higher speeds. But as someone just said there are many, many tweaks the registry being another. Now if we are talking about tweaks only for speed I suppose there is a finite number that you can do.My guess is there would at least a couple of hundred some making large speed increases some small. To me the fun is what I learn while doing this, now there are also cosmetic tweaks which would also number in the hundreds (my guess). So to me it doesn't matter if I call it a tweak or farting around,it still fun,and I guess thats what most of us are doing here......Like I sometimes say tweak till your weak!!!(pretty lame hun) microwave
