richcornucopia Posted May 14, 2006 CID Share Posted May 14, 2006 Welcome to testmy.net . Are you running cablenut right now? I'm assuming you are in Jamaica, is this true? If it is, then this could explain some of the speed loss but you still should be able to tweak and get it faster. Also is your computer clean of viruses and spyware? ryft Posted May 14, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 14, 2006 Yes I have cablenut, I have tried some setting that gave negative results, some that gave positive ones; this is currently the best I can do. Of course my computer is clean of viruses and spyware.
tommie gorman Posted May 14, 2006 CID Share Posted May 14, 2006 Have you defragged your hard drive, or cleaned out your registry lately?
ryft Posted May 14, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 14, 2006 Yes I have, and I used tuneup utilities 2006, tried the test on me laptop and desktop and got similar results. Before, I have even rewired the phones wires in the house, that gave so improvement but this is where I am at.

tommie gorman Posted May 14, 2006 CID Share Posted May 14, 2006 Try the 2992 file test for me, and make sure you clean out your cache. Tools*Internet options*Delete Files including offline content*OK*OK*test. Then try with your firewall off? Also what Anti-Virus are you running? tommie gorman Posted May 14, 2006 CID Share Posted May 14, 2006 Have you checked to see if any unnecesary services are running in the background? Start*Run*type in "msconfig"*ok*start up tab. To see if any are not supposed to be running?
ryft Posted May 14, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 14, 2006 Well I have quite a bit of services running especially sql server 2005 but I need those for my project. Do you think that would make much of a difference with a amd 64 4000+ 1GB memory??

Do you think that would make much of a difference with a amd 64 4000+ 1GB memory?? I am not saying stop the services, just stop them on start up. They should still start when you want them. Do they need to run all the time, or just when you need them. Example, when I reformat, the first thing I do is turn off all services. Strip the ones I do not need. Then the only ones running on start, are my AV and Antispyware, and for some reason my printer. Another example is Quicktime, I can start using it whenever I want, but it only runs if I click on it, not all the time. Me personally, I also kill MSN messenger, big resource hog, runs all the time. I use e-mail. By the way I am running an AMD 3500 with 2GB ram myself. And it still makes a difference. dlewis23, I think he is trying to hit his cap, not necessarily go over it. dlewis23 Posted May 14, 2006 CID Share Posted May 14, 2006 dlewis23, I think he is trying to hit his cap, not necessarily go over it. he will never hit the cap, he is right were he should be at. there is no since in trying to tweak he will never get any closer. the distance factor of dsl is in play here he is at his max.
