northstar518 Posted May 24, 2006 CID Share Posted May 24, 2006 does anyone know of a wireless router that can handle 30MB download speeds?
asubaseball727 Posted May 24, 2006 CID Share Posted May 24, 2006 I think that's about the max...And the Linksys wrt54g should be able to come close. I have the wrt54g and there is only a slight drop in speeds. But you don't want the latest v5 because it has crappier firmware.

Crazy Naru Posted May 25, 2006 CID Share Posted May 25, 2006 Try Wireless N for really fast speeds
dlewis23 Posted May 25, 2006 CID Share Posted May 25, 2006 my isp told me the d-link dgl-4300;it's a gaming router your ISP told you right. IF you want 30mbps wirelessly any 54mbps router will be able to do that.
Swimmer Posted May 25, 2006 CID Share Posted May 25, 2006 that is about the only one that will have those types of speeds.. 802.11n will when the standards are finally set and consumer stuff is out..
richcornucopia Posted May 25, 2006 CID Share Posted May 25, 2006 Yea, even though 802.11g is 54mbps you'll prolly never see more than 30.
Blunted 2 Posted May 25, 2006 CID Share Posted May 25, 2006 i'll hook up my router when i have some time to and test wireless VS wired and show you exactly what you would get if you had the wrt54g. you should see the same results as me joeandjan cause you have the same package as me so wait till i post back results before you buy a router unless you really need it. northstar518 Posted May 25, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 25, 2006 I checked out Linksys's new WPC 300N;sounds like it might do the job.I thought the"N" routers wouldn't be out till late this year.I'll wait till I hear back from Blunted2 before I fork over 130 bucks.I'm hardwired to my modem now,so I'll post my down & up now

Swimmer Posted May 25, 2006 CID Share Posted May 25, 2006 the WPC 300N is still a draft device.. I think around the holidays consumers will start to see the first fully complient devices roll on to the market.. and they are not going to be cheap. resopalrabotnick Posted May 25, 2006 CID Share Posted May 25, 2006 the thing with the pre-N equipment is: what if some specs in the draft actually do change? you're then stuck with a pretty proprietary piece of kit. sometimes being an early adopter is just not worth it. (or would that be premature adopter in the case of pre-N equipment?)
FGOKURULES Posted May 27, 2006 CID Share Posted May 27, 2006 I've Found Setting most Wireless Routers to channel 3 Gives me a 9% boost in wireless speed. I have tested this with Ailink,d-link,netgear,us-robotic routers. and have seen some improvement. Don't know the reason though. I've heard some say. Most Routers/wifi come right out of the box operating at channel 11, and it's overcrowding the freq. Thus some recieve lower transfer rates for 802.11g routers.
