xLcore Posted June 6, 2006 CID Share Posted June 6, 2006 Heya, I've been using SBC Yahoo!, (Ameritech), and my connection is rated at 3008 Kbps (downstream), 512 Kbps (upstream). I've been running with my isp for about a year or so. Originally I believe the speed we received was a 1.5mbit connection, and it seems it's been upgraded. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1302 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 748 kB) Download Speed is:: 159 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 2) Test Time:: 2006/06/05 - 9:25pm Bottom Line:: 23X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 6.44 sec Tested from a 748 kB file and took 4.704 seconds to complete Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 61.56 % of your hosts average (ameritech.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-CMNZ1WVPF I kinda feel like I'm getting ripped off here, and was wondering how I'd be able to get that other 20%. I'm not sure wether a registry tweak would fix this issue or not, I get pretty good speeds when using bittorrent and such, but since the connect is now, supposely something like 2.9mbit, I'm only at 1.3mbit... My modem is a SpeedStream 5100, wondering if purchasing a new modem would change anything. Thanks for any help.

xLcore Posted June 6, 2006 Author CID Share Posted June 6, 2006 Alright thanks, no issues with spyware and such, running Windows XP Home SP2, using my motherboard's (Abit AV8 Gigabit LAN) ethernet port. My SBC plan is [sBC Yahoo! DSL Pro], and currently paying $26.27 a month, so it seem's I'm definately getting ripped off here.

dlewis23 Posted June 7, 2006 CID Share Posted June 7, 2006 What should I do? Call them? :/ calling them is always a good thing, you may also want to make sure your getting the proper modem sync rate. there is a page in your modem that will tell you what your actually downstream and upstream sync rate is. xLcore Posted June 10, 2006 Author CID Share Posted June 10, 2006 Alrighty, called them, seems there was a issue on their side, operating at 2mbit or so, I think I can live with that.
