luke Posted July 15, 2006 CID Share Posted July 15, 2006 Hi, Iv been having this trubble for some time, after giving up with getting my ISP to fix it or even help at all. Thay keep saying theres nothing wrong with there network. Maybe thats true if the cable modem's signal and cable in the street is not classed as part of the network thats if it it whats wrong with it. Iv tryed lots of difrent way of setting up my network at home but still no luck. I even bilt a new comp for a frend and used that(with-out the router) and did a ping -t test on my first hop. Also did a test on a site some time ago now but it did the test starting from there end(meaning the last hop would be my router and not the site) and sed all passed but my first hop and it was a us site and im in the uk. I use all the tools shown on your site and found them realy usefull, my speeds are spot on witch is wird as is my very low ping. I could understand if i was getting a bad ping to my ISP(by the way there 5min walk up the road!) but my ping to them is with in 6-10 witch is good right? but im getting timed-out all the time and i like to play online game's. Please can somone help or tell me if i should giv up and move on to adsl?

Hey luke. I would call up your ISP if this trace doesn't get any better, and demand that they do something to fix it. Just keep asking for the highest level of tech support. Somebody is bound do have direct contact with your ISP's GNOC. You are seeing packet loss at the switch from your ISP to it's backbone. That should be a clean transition, and you have every right to complain if it is not. You'll notice the times jump at hop 7. This is a internation link (Global Crossing), so it is normal to see times increase. The timeouts from this spot on are most likely due to the transition at hop 4.
