FiberOptic Posted August 15, 2006 CID Share Posted August 15, 2006 My 10Mb connection was constantly very fast it seemed, but today my sister came to stay for a few days away from university. she asked me if she could use the pc i told her that she could just use her lappy and not downlaod spyware on my machine, so i hooked it up via ethernet and off she went.... i couldnt help but do a quick speed test and to my amazement she had a constant test result of 9.4Mb...... my machine is now gettting slower..... obviosuly its not the connection because she can achiebve high speeds and my computer is just slow... the max i get is 5mb nothing faster... :::.. daman4469 Posted August 15, 2006 CID Share Posted August 15, 2006 Well, your problem is very common. Let me give you an ISP tech support line: Computer maintenance is priceless. My computer also has 512 MB RAM...it by far isn't the fastest machine out there. However, weekly I run maintenance - network updates, cleaning cache and cookies, running antispyware tests, antivirus tests, power cycling my modem, and removing unused programs. Do you do this? It's basic stuff, but sometimes it makes a world of a difference!
dlewis23 Posted August 15, 2006 CID Share Posted August 15, 2006 ok so basicly my speed is fyn..... just confuses me is that my sis could get 9.5mb+ from vans server though......... yes your internet is fine, i would just clear your cache before you do a speed test, sometimes it can make the test slower if your cache is full.
