danobegood Posted January 25, 2007 CID Share Posted January 25, 2007 Tested Vz FiOS speeds and they don't seem to be accurate. Shows less than 5 down and 2 up. On 20/5 plan. I go to speakeasy and it reports accurately 22/4.4. Any clue?

Go there, it is verizon's optimizer tool for Fios...You have to install active x control. It is safe, and I use it each time I install windows, and I get my full speeds..Just choose your plan from the list, and it will adjust the settings for you. Just remember you need to reboot after making the changes for it to take effect..

danobegood Posted January 27, 2007 Author CID Share Posted January 27, 2007 I've always used the TCP Optimizer at Speedguide.net. Do you feel there'd be any difference? MTU is at 1500 right now. http://www2.verizon.net/help/fios_settings/optimizer/Default.asp? Go there, it is verizon's optimizer tool for Fios...You have to install active x control. tommie gorman Posted January 27, 2007 CID Share Posted January 27, 2007 I am not sure on your setup there danobegood, but on hughes I use their "Browsing Optimization Utility" along with TCP Optimizer also. NO problems.

Your MTU should be 1492 not 1500...This may be giving you problems. Run the optimizer, then go here www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php?DATA_OFFSET=40&TCP_Options_string=020405ac0103030401010402 , and tell me what the 'MTU' and 'Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN)' are.. Voltageman Posted January 28, 2007 CID Share Posted January 28, 2007 Did you change your MTU to 1492? If you haven't, you are not going to get good speeds, and you may run into problems with some sites/ftp downloads. Edit: Check your router also...If you had techs install it, and get the router up and going, it should be set correctly, but make sure the router MTU is set to 1492 as well..I'm not sure what router they gave you, but with the one we got, it is under WAN/Home PPPOE should be checked. You will have the place where you enter your name/password, and below that should be a box for MTU. Make sure this is not set to 1500. Blunted 2 Posted January 28, 2007 CID Share Posted January 28, 2007 why not 1500 MTU?
Voltageman Posted January 28, 2007 CID Share Posted January 28, 2007 why not 1500 MTU? Fios is PPPOE, you can't use higher than 1492, it will cause problems loading sites and dowloading files.
Blunted 2 Posted January 28, 2007 CID Share Posted January 28, 2007 fios has DHCP and most new users get it than old users for now but i can get it now and my friends just got it and his is DHCP.
Voltageman Posted January 28, 2007 CID Share Posted January 28, 2007 Thats odd.. According to Verizon it is 1492, but I guess they have something new then. Ours is still PPPOE. http://www2.verizon.net/help/fios_settings/learnmore.asp The FiOS network requires an MTU of 1492 bytes Edit: I will have to see if we can use DHCP now...
