inmate717 Posted February 1, 2007 CID Share Posted February 1, 2007 are you trying to connect over the net or just your local network? If you are just doing it over the network then you should have no problems, however if you are trying to do it over the internet then you need to get the public IP address of your home computers internet connection www.ipchicken.com as well as open the specific ports on your router/firewall if you have one. I use UltraVNC to remote into my home computer from my laptop and i know i had to open ports on my router to make it work hope this helps
Spook63 Posted February 1, 2007 CID Share Posted February 1, 2007 Make sure that you are running both VNC Viewer and the VNC Server. Also check the incoming port on the box you are trying to get to. You may have to type in the IP with the port, ie 192.168.200.102:5909.
GIXXERGUY6 Posted February 1, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 1, 2007 that didn't work lol. how can i just get in his computer from here instead of walking over there and setting it up lol. we are on the same damn network lol. u want to hack in and do it for me lol hahah
inmate717 Posted February 2, 2007 CID Share Posted February 2, 2007 If you are on the same network as dumb as it sounds you need the server running on his computer, setup with a password or else it will not work, 2 get the private IP address for his computer, if you have to set a static address for it of 192.168.1.254 so as not to interfere with other devices on your network. Then go back to your computer and open your VNC Viewer and type in his IP if it connects bravo if not there is something wrong in the setup. also have you tried to remote desktop? or do you have XP Home

php Posted February 2, 2007 CID Share Posted February 2, 2007 Do you have the VNC server running on the computer you're trying to connect to?
Swimmer Posted February 2, 2007 CID Share Posted February 2, 2007 What is the subnet mask of the computer in question?? Are the computers firewalled?
inmate717 Posted February 2, 2007 CID Share Posted February 2, 2007 I agree with swimmer if the computers are firewalled you will have to open the ports on the respective computer if you are only trying to connect through the LAN then you should have no problems unless the xp firewall or others are on
