Connection407 Posted February 21, 2007 CID Share Posted February 21, 2007 About two weeks ago, I noticed that my online gaming had slown down a little bit. Instead of a green ping during games I have had a red recently. I havent changed nothing and even made a direct port for my xbox 360. I tried rebooting and everything else that can go along with it. I ran the connection speed test but I have no idea about what I am looking at. Here is what the test results where. ::::::::::.. FallowEarth Posted February 21, 2007 CID Share Posted February 21, 2007 A traceroute will usually indicate packet loss and latency. To perform a traceroute, type this in the command line: tracert -d testmy.net
Connection407 Posted February 22, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 I ran one of those yesterday while I was on the phone with the tech. One tech told me my connection is really messed up and the other said it is completely fine. I got an experienced tech coming to my house tomorrow hopefully. I ran it again and here are the first seven numbers down the first row... Maybe you can tell me what they mean or if you need all of them. Once again these are all the numbers down the first column. <1ms 131ms 50ms 264ms 101ms 192ms 68ms Hopefully you guys can help me out. Once again this is a cable connection,
Connection407 Posted February 22, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 I know I am probably bugging most of you with all these questions but shouldn't my download speed be somewhere in the MB? Not KBPS? When I am running these tests the speeds are coming back around 100-400kbps.... upload is 300-400 kbps...
cfoa Posted February 22, 2007 CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 If you have a computer hooked up to router it is possible that you have a virus which can slow your speeds down a lot, but you haven't posted what you pay for so we don't know what you should get. Also <1ms 131ms 50ms 264ms 101ms 192ms 68ms those are the latency in your connection. 68 and 50 are really good .
Connection407 Posted February 22, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 so when i run my latency i am looking for numbers between 50-70? or are they just supposed to be together. I pay for the basic service from comcast which now switched over to timewarner or roadrunner as they call it. I just think my roadrunner is missing a leg or something. Connection407 Posted February 22, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 I did a virus scan and it found a virus. I then re-ran my latency and these are the new numbers. <1ms 25ms 36ms 63ms 71ms 35ms Hopefully that means things are getting better

mudmanc4 Posted February 22, 2007 CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 All areas have different basic packages, do you know the package you are paying for? such as 5 down and 7k up , may be the basic you have w/ TW ....??? BTW, you will have isuues w/ TW for a while as they get changed over. You also may want to DL and run spybot.com . I suspect you may have other issues , if you found a virus that quickly Bots or any kind of maleware you have contracted w/o an antivirus prog will kill your speed by hogging the bandwidth It is also good to have a router , in the network to stop a whole plethora of issues, if you dont already have one
Connection407 Posted February 22, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 Im not sure about the whole down and up thing. Im pretty new to this and the only reason is because I was having problems so I am finding out things slowly. When I find out I will be sure to post it. I do have a router. I run linksys WRTG-5 or something of that matter. I will run the spybot right now. =) Thanks alot.
Connection407 Posted February 22, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 Yea, that virus was definetly the problem. I re-booted my modems and re-ran the test. New results. Connection407 Posted February 22, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 22, 2007 Should I install it on my laptop... or my pc that is connected to my router by cable?.... My main concern for a connection was a better ping while on xbox. =) If i install those files it wont really help me on my xbox will it?
