It's making me CRAZY. I think it may be the company cebridge.net that's slowing me down, but this is ridiculous. This is after doing everything in Van Bueren's Guide.

tommie gorman Posted March 2, 2007 CID Share Posted March 2, 2007 First off you are using too small of a test. Try the 1496 size file test. It will be much more accurate. Second it looks like the speeds are here. High-Speed Internet: 512k - 5 Mbps Download Speeds Internet Access: 128k - 384k Download Speed http://www.cebridge.net/cebridge/ctl?vo=pager&page=products_for_home/high_speed.vm Second of all have you read this? http://www.testmy.net/t-4257
ChronicNeo Posted March 3, 2007 Author CID Share Posted March 3, 2007 ChronicNeo, Welcome to the forum! What is your advertised speed package? It's advertised to be 1.1 Mbps. But hardly ever runs at that.

tommie gorman Posted March 3, 2007 CID Share Posted March 3, 2007 Are you running Norton AV, or a Messenger service? Like MSN, yahoo? What all is running in the background? Click on Ctrl+Alt+Delete and check in the applications tab to see. Are you running with a router?
ceddy_5 Posted March 3, 2007 CID Share Posted March 3, 2007 Hi, see you are having speed problems... If you are using cebridge you must be using cable HSD... There are several things it could be unfortunately but I will try to help you... Try what the previous post says and check your programs, may be a program taking from your bandwidth.. Your virus scanner shouldn't be doing this, unless it is updating virus definitions. Usually problem w/ virus scanners is that can block access completely if certain settings are enabled.. Okay, if you think that the startup programs are to blame do this: go to Run in start menu, type "msconfig". This will bring up your MS configuration utility.. be careful only to go to selective startup and uncheck the last option, load startup items.. when you do this and reboot you will notice you computer will be much faster when it restarts, but all the programs that auto start will not be available... Try to post your speed then. To reenable your startup programs do the same thing and recheck the box.. Also, if you have a very old computer, your speed is limited by the CPU speed. Since I don't know what the configuration is, or how you have internet set up, could be other factors in play.. If you have a very long cable cord to computer(over 20 feet), or have multiple splitters that might also be a factor. Hope this helps out!
