Can't extend partition

Recommended Posts

I tried shrinking my recovery drive (D:) and i wanted to extend my main drive (C:). When i tried the extend button remained inactive as seen here. What is the problem?

Also i would like to know why is there 2 empty drives with no name and can i safely delete them. This is the way i bought my computer so I'm not exactly what is going on because i am new at drive partitioning.

i agree with php.....i could actually merge partitions regardless of where they were in windows xp using partition magic, but with vista I think it is more tricky....

if you want to resize a partition, especially make it bigger, then you need to have free space either before or after it...then you click on the partition you want to resize and add space to either beginning or end of it....

Grab a copy of Gparted : http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php  and give that a shot.. It should allow you to increase the size of your partition with the new free space.

As for the two "extra" drives.. My guess is that one is going to be you recovery partition, that is, from the manufacture because as a cost saving attempt they decided not to include the media.  The other partition, the EISA one, is the software that will run the reinstall from the 2 GB partition.
