fille Posted October 6, 2007 CID Share Posted October 6, 2007 I have a very bizarre problem. I have internet from Hughes and before I went on holiday all was working perfect. From the modem it went to a router and then to 3 computers, no problem. When I came back, the router was not working anymore, do not now why. I unplugged all before I left. I went for a new router and the same problem
granpa Posted October 6, 2007 CID Share Posted October 6, 2007 What's a Hughes modem?
tommie gorman Posted October 6, 2007 CID Share Posted October 6, 2007 How many lights are showing up on the modem? Have you restarted the modem? Is it properly grounded? Are all the other cables tight. Maybe some got blown loose. And what is your signal strength? Has anybody had access at all to it? Has it been raining there? Cloudy? You know grandpa, that danged theing that hughes gave us for our life blood high speeds we got.

fille Posted October 6, 2007 Author CID Share Posted October 6, 2007 All the lights are on with the old cable. With a new cable, the transmit and system lights are blinking. I restarted the modem and it is properly grounded. All cables are tight
granpa Posted October 6, 2007 CID Share Posted October 6, 2007 I don't know what to tell you. I have no idea what modem you have or what the modem is showing by checking system status at (192.168.0.1). If your using a router behind the modem we need to know what that is and how it is set up through the interface, usually (192.168.1.1). tommie gorman Posted October 7, 2007 CID Share Posted October 7, 2007 As grandpa said not sure which modem, although I don't think it will make a lot of difference. It almost sounds like the cables in some way. I mean lights on and off with different cables. In a regular eletric connection, that would almost tell me some of the cables have bad ends maybe. I am thinking cables. Yep my first guess is a handfull of bad cables. It only makes sense. So you might need to replace all but the one then. Or simply bad connectors on the modem itself. Meaning where the cables connect to the modem. If there were a way to tighten the sockets.
granpa Posted October 7, 2007 CID Share Posted October 7, 2007 Well I'm not sure what cables are being switched but I would guess the network cables since there was no mention of coax cables but only 3 computers and then one hooked up directly. But he does mention a signal of 92 so not knowing what the system status is I would rule out the coax, but ACP could be off.
