RiverWar Posted February 2, 2005 CID Share Posted February 2, 2005 ok, reported last week about my comcast upgrade, 4000/384, and posted great scores with all default settings, as they beat any of the ccs tweak settings in cablenut. scores are posted in previous post of mine, "Comcast Rockin". since then i have, as I always do tweaked around with settings, knowing i could always go back to the default, as well as saving my own custom settings in cablenut. i could get a high score now and then with cablenut settings but not consistently close to being the same. i also unloaded cablenut and tried tcp optimizer, but it too couldn't come close to the default scores. the other day i put the settings all back to default and now these scores are lower, close to the best scores i can get with default settings. so i'm thinking that when the upgrade came out comcast delivered more than the upgrade, or some how i was just getting more than advertised at 4000/384, and now they have it back down to what was advertised? I don't know, just trying to figure it out? VB, here's some scores from just a little while ago, plus the report from nitro, maybe you see some thing that might help, even though i know that i am getting the 90% of download, and close with upload, which doesn't concern me all that much, at least not now. :::.. VanBuren Posted February 2, 2005 CID Share Posted February 2, 2005 hey RiverWar the Nitro uploadtest is abit off, running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 402.53Kb/s i dont think you go above cap upstream, i seen a few more that show inaccurate scores on upload from that test also this is off defaultreceivewindow 100740 and this tcpwindow 256960 anyways, i would like you to test this file, its Version 3 that i modifyed the TcpWindowsize ( there will be a version 4 soon cos i rebuild them as soon as i see a pattern ) open cablenut, click delete cablenut tweaks + save to registry now the adjuster suppose to be blank load this file i attach and click save to registry again ( its build for 4400 but probl work well for 4000 too, if not i will adjust it for ya ) reboot and check speed but up and down, use the 2992 KB test down and 1492 KB test up good luck VanBuren

RiverWar Posted February 2, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 2, 2005 VB, first of all, many thanks for taking the time, and I'm always happy, but a tweaker is never satisfied question if I may? pros and cons about the QoS packet scheduler tweak, i have it tweaked, as well as Link Speed & Duplex set to Auto Detect. have tried with tweaks on and off, seem to increase through put some. your feelings? again, many thanxz River~

RiverWar Posted February 2, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 2, 2005 i run cable modem only, ran three sets of tests, testing up and down, with link/duplex set on "auto" another at 100/half, and another at 10/half, with QoS disabled. here's earlier scores with QoS enabled/auto detect down: 3844/469 up
VanBuren Posted February 2, 2005 CID Share Posted February 2, 2005 how did you uninstall QoS? did you do it in gpedit.msc or did you uncheck it next to your TCP/IP protocol in your LAN properties? also try 100 Mbps full duplex, but all recomendations ive seen, says to use Half duplex directly to a modem and only FULL duplex if your using a router. RiverWar Posted February 2, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 2, 2005 used gpedit, and also unchecked in network connections. will test the 100/full in a second
