tommie gorman Posted December 17, 2007 CID Share Posted December 17, 2007 I think I got rid of the buggers. But I believe I also am left withy damage that seems mighty hard to fix. It keeps knocking me off line at random. Says it neds to close and takes me out of the browser. I did a lot of removals of virus and spyware. Yes a but load. spybot,AVG free anti virus and spyware, adaware, wndows defender, Hijack this, spyware blaster is also installed. And everything is update. Plus I also ran in safe mode. Even tried a couple of online scans. I can't seem to reinstall IE6 by # 3 & 4 methods. It won't allow it to even do a sfc/scannow in run. And Ie.inf file seems to be missing. Yes I want to keep IE6 if possible. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378 I am not allowed to do a restore point. Any other ideas besides save and reformat? No I do not remember what was in it. tommie gorman Posted December 17, 2007 Author CID Share Posted December 17, 2007 It now says "Insert your Windows XP Professional CD2 now." It is Media center. And it will not except any of the 5 restore CD (Bootable CD). Any other clues?
coknuck Posted December 17, 2007 CID Share Posted December 17, 2007 Did you try #4?
tommie gorman Posted December 17, 2007 Author CID Share Posted December 17, 2007 #4 CD or #4 solution? #4 solution won't work. No file to be found. Lots of IE's but not that particular one. #4 CD the same response as the rest.
coknuck Posted December 17, 2007 CID Share Posted December 17, 2007 I believe it the one with just "ie" under the folder. If you right click it, it will give an option to install. #4 solution
tommie gorman Posted December 17, 2007 Author CID Share Posted December 17, 2007 When I do that this is displayed. 'The file 'IEXPLORE>EXE' on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK. Copy files from: C:WINDOWSinfi386 OR A: OR Browse

coknuck Posted December 17, 2007 CID Share Posted December 17, 2007 I have XP home with SP2 and did the install with the "iereset" and it didn't hurt anything. But I'm not having any problems. The others I'm not sure about. I'll bet when Sequoia reads this he will have an idea or two. Have you tried contacting him?
