Guest aneljr009 Posted January 4, 2008 CID Share Posted January 4, 2008 HELP! My PC "sometimes" suddenly restarts while installing which causes errors. I made a virus scan with 3 antiviruses (NOD32, Kaspersky 7 & AVG) and with Spyware Doctor but everytime I scan, my PC restarts and during the boot time, my PC always unable to detect my PRIMARY hard drive. So, I need to touched the power port to IDE before it starts. I think my hardware have no problem because it always happen. I already scanned my PC through safe mode but still restarts. Help!!!... starship_troopers Posted January 4, 2008 CID Share Posted January 4, 2008 Your be is unable to detect your primary hard disk? ...in that case it could just be as simple as a loose/dead ribbon cable...or soemthing like that...but if it your pc restarts....i am not 100% sure.... Swimmer Posted January 7, 2008 CID Share Posted January 7, 2008 Try rinning Prime95 for afew hours... I am thinking it might a cooling issue and that the PC is rebooting/shutting off to protect the processor. I can't think of anything that would cause the primary drive to not appear on boot... It could be hardware failure, improper grounding in the case..
fr0stbound Posted January 7, 2008 CID Share Posted January 7, 2008 So, I need to touched the power port to IDE before it starts. I think my hardware have no problem because it always happen. according to you, you have to touch the IDE before you turn on your pc. then that means it IS a hardware problem, most probably broken IDE or loose power supply female socket. edit- uhh, most people don't like seeing titles in all uppercase. Guest aneljr009 Posted January 9, 2008 CID Share Posted January 9, 2008 No. I already replaced the socket and port. It only happens during installations and uninstallations so my programs now are limited. I still have 40GB free space. IT forces mo to reformat my PC. WAA!!! I have already installed many new games b4 this happened. It happened last December.
Blako Posted January 10, 2008 CID Share Posted January 10, 2008 Would you say your computer only restarts when heavily using the harddrive? Or would a large load on system memory or video processing (3D game) cause a restart? Try copying and pasting 2 Gbytes of files, would that make it crash? Guest aneljr009 Posted January 12, 2008 CID Share Posted January 12, 2008 OK! I already fixed it. The cause is my WINDOWS INSTALLER. I downloaded the new version of WINDOWS INSTALLER from the microsoft's website. It's now fixed.
