SeanHatesHisComp Posted February 8, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 8, 2005 Just noticed that downloads will start very high and then start dropping until it gets around 40kb and stay around there....
xs1 Posted February 8, 2005 CID Share Posted February 8, 2005 Well looking at yoiur tracert, you have some signal strenth issues in your line , giving you bursts and deaths (for lack of better termonology) . Id call your ISP and tell them your getting very poor speeds and that they need to run a line test on your connection. Also try this, and post your results. MICROWAVE Posted February 8, 2005 CID Share Posted February 8, 2005 SeanHatesHisComp Welcome to the site I hope you will enjoy...Your RWIN needs to be corrected from the DSL report, Also I am assuming that you followed the suggestions about spyware ...etc ? Try the link below if you haven't already please... You will probally still have to call your ISP, as Swimmer said the first 2 hops are in trouble and if you have power cycled (recycle L0L) the modem and you are connected directly from the modem to your NIC card (no router...etc) everything else can be ruled out(almost) good luck and keep visiting and tell your friends about TESTMY.NET........ VanBuren Posted February 8, 2005 CID Share Posted February 8, 2005 hey Sean, run that linequality test again, without firewall enabled, or config Firewall to allow ICMP traffic. also like suggested, if you have a router, try bypassing it VanBuren
xs1 Posted February 8, 2005 CID Share Posted February 8, 2005 van, With alot of companies now, if your not on a router your unpingable. I used to have perfect results from the tweak test when going thru the router. Now that i have no second ( or third ...or 4th ) computer , im just going directly thru the modem.... which makes me "unpingable" -TTEST 3. ICMP (ping) check Target unpingable Notes and recommendations: Become pingable if you need basic packet loss tests done Check tweak FAQ - PING Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] © Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. VanBuren Posted February 8, 2005 CID Share Posted February 8, 2005 windows allow ICMP traffic unless you using SP2 firewall and use default setup.... VanBuren

VanBuren I didnt mean you should go around pinging people lol, i just know from gaming. Need to see what my ping will be if a friend hosts a server and whatnot But yea, even with all the xp firewalls closed, im still not pingable, nor is my comcast friend in NJ, or my RR friend in brooklyn =( Luckly i have the router, so i can become pingable if needed to host a game server. MICROWAVE Posted February 9, 2005 CID Share Posted February 9, 2005 Its very common for ISP's to block ports, I have read many different reasonsbut none of them make any sense to me..If I want to except pings(which I dont) it is none of the providers business, I run my computer in stealth mode.It is possible as we all know to accept a ping and still keep your computer "safe"... below is a link that will test your firewall and or computer and let you know if you are vulnerable. I'm sure many are familiar with this site but for those that aren't here it is..
