scdreamin3 Posted August 4, 2008 CID Share Posted August 4, 2008 Yes. It is tethered to my Pc. Unfortunately its that or use dial - up. Out here in the country where I live that is all that is available. I mean, my speeds are between 250 & 300 down and 50 or so up, so it's better than dial up. I have thought of getting either hughesnet or wild blue satellite. I might check into it one day. Up front costs are so high though.

vern Posted August 5, 2008 CID Share Posted August 5, 2008 Last week before I acquired and used the private tel number of my telco's president of operations for my state, pings for me at this time of day were running between 1000 and 4000+ ms. After a lengthy chat with him they are now like this all the time. Pinging testmy.net [74.54.226.166] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 74.54.226.166: bytes=32 time=74ms TTL=50 Reply from 74.54.226.166: bytes=32 time=73ms TTL=50 Reply from 74.54.226.166: bytes=32 time=72ms TTL=50 Reply from 74.54.226.166: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=50 Ping statistics for 74.54.226.166: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 72ms, Maximum = 75ms, Average = 73ms Not too shabby for a remote DSLAM connection. scdreamin3 Posted August 6, 2008 CID Share Posted August 6, 2008 You wouldn't happen to have Alltel's President of Operations' for South Carolina's phone number laying around anywhere would you? lol.
vern Posted August 6, 2008 CID Share Posted August 6, 2008 Altel? Ouch. They are almost as bad as Frontier AKA Citizens. I had Altel here years ago before the internet was invented and was lucky just to keep a dial tone, especially every time it rained. It was a party line too. 5 customers sharing one POTs line.
