Guest PeePs Posted July 1, 2008 CID Share Posted July 1, 2008 Alright, so this past week or so it has a been a nightly occurrence for my internet to disconnect randomly throughout the night. Sometimes I will stay connected 45 minutes then it will time out for maybe 4 minutes and then it will work again. I've tried resetting my router and modem, and I've tried multiple computers on my network and they are all not getting internet. The computers are connect via ethernet, and during the times when the internet doesn't work I can still access the router and modem. I have Cox cable in Omaha, NE with a Netgear WPN824v2 router. I noticed a lot of errors in my logs for my modem today. Here they are: Time Priority Code Message 2008-06-30 22:20:28 3-Critical R005.0 Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out 2008-06-30 22:20:23 6-Notice I401.0 TLV-11 - unrecognized OID 2008-06-30 22:20:20 4-Error D004.3 ToD request sent- No Response received 2008-06-30 22:20:20 3-Critical D003.0 DHCP WARNING - AlucardHS Posted July 1, 2008 CID Share Posted July 1, 2008 -14 DBmV, your signal is looking weak. Should be between -7 to 7 with 0 being best. Call them ! my $0.
Guest PeePs Posted July 2, 2008 CID Share Posted July 2, 2008 Anyone know anything about all those logs errors for my modem? I noticed that every time my internet dies it lists a "critical error" for that exact time. I looked on Cox's website to try and e-mail support my logs, but their website gives me an error when I click their "E-mail us" link. Starting to get bitter. coknuck Posted July 2, 2008 CID Share Posted July 2, 2008 I have been getting logs like that since I've had a cable modem. They used to freak me out but I don't worry about them ant more. I've had cable over three years now.

Guest PeePs Posted July 3, 2008 CID Share Posted July 3, 2008 Could it be possible that my modem has gone bad, or do you thing all this is because the signal is so weak? Hopefully I'll have time to call them sometime this weekend.
pakocat Posted July 3, 2008 CID Share Posted July 3, 2008 It seems a lot of folks out there are having the same exact problems. Many forums on this subject. No fixes though. I was playing Star Wars II on my playstation last night and kept getting the lost connection signal and I've also noticed some problems with my X-Box 360 wireless connections recently as well. I'm hard wired into a Linksys wireless router from a Motorola sb4100 using Time Warner RR as an ISP. I also receive Digital Phone service through the same connection. That means its utilizing signals in both directions ... I wonder if there is some type of interference going on in the transfer of signals somehow? Anyway I'm told that the ISP doesn't update the DOCSIS firmware and Linksys network wizard finds no problems with my connection. Maybe if I switch to a static IP address ..... or register the MAC address with the ISP .... or switch to a DSL ...... arghhhh ... sigh
crazy_ate Posted July 3, 2008 CID Share Posted July 3, 2008 I have a solution to this problem. I had exactly the same problem. Just popped up out of the blue a few weeks back -- my internet connection would go down about every 20 minutes, some times more frequently, somethimes less. A sample of my error log is below: 2008-07-02 12:22:45 3-Critical 0x040D9A2C DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response. 2008-07-02 12:22:42 3-Critical 0x040D9964 DHCP FAILED - Discover sent, no offer received 2008-07-02 12:22:31 3-Critical 0x04E33948 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out 2008-07-02 12:22:13 3-Critical 0x04E33A10 Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 timeout 2008-07-02 12:21:41 3-Critical 0x04E33A74 Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out 2008-07-02 12:18:21 3-Critical 0x040D9A2C DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response. After much thought I did three things: [1] I loosened and retightened all my F connectors. At the drop outside and at the two way splitter that takes one leg to the cable modem and the other leg to my 4-way amplified splitter for my TV's. Result = NG [2] Next I made up a new RU6 cable to run from the modem to the splitter thinking the old cable might be shot. Result = NG [3] I REPLACED THE TWO WAY SPLITTER Result = NO MORE PROBLEMS Apparently these little puupies can and do go bad. In addition, I have seen where cable techs recommend not using gold plated splitters -- my old one was gold plated made by GE. Problem solved and no a single friggin' error in the past 48 hours. Incidentally my modem is a 2002 SB5100 and my service is Optimum Online in Morris County NJ. Also running through an AT&T VOIP ATA and a Linksys wireless router. Guest PeePs Posted July 4, 2008 CID Share Posted July 4, 2008 Alright, thanks a lot for the information. I'll see if I can try a new splitter this weekend and I'll post the results after I do!
