arlechinu Posted February 13, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 13, 2005 allright... here's the reply i got from my isp... quote: "i took a look at those links too. i think you should do more research before you claim stuff like that. first of all lots of packets are blocked by the server at those tests. seconda of all, usa is quite a long way from here, it is normal you should have a larger ping" dunno, i'm not a networking expert, but this sounds like BS can anyone here with some more experience with these things help me out? please... is there any truth in what he's saying or is he simply stupid? help me out with a reply for this guy thanx! xs1 Posted February 13, 2005 CID Share Posted February 13, 2005 First its the 4th hop problem, then the 7th. Im beginning to think its not the hops at all. Meaning, you have somethign drawing from your overall upload bandwidth which causes ping spikes at random times. Have you checked for viruses or spyware or ANY other programs that could be drawing from your bandwidth? heres an example. tracert with all bandwidth free: Tracing route to testmy.net [67.19.36.6] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 6 ms 7 ms 6 ms 10.102.192.1 2 8 ms 7 ms 7 ms atm5-0-644.tampflerl-rtr1.tampabay.rr.com [24.92 .7.42] 3 8 ms 7 ms 8 ms srp8-0.tampflerl-rtr3.tampabay.rr.com [65.32.8.2 27] 4 8 ms 8 ms 7 ms so-0-2-0-0.gar1.Tampa1.Level3.net [209.0.96.1] 5 8 ms 7 ms 8 ms so-7-0-0.mp1.Tampa1.Level3.net [4.68.124.9] 6 8 ms 7 ms 30 ms as-2-0.bbr1.Dallas1.Level3.net [64.159.3.217] 7 31 ms 95 ms 201 ms ge-1-1-55.car3.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.68.122.134] 8 269 ms 32 ms 203 ms ge-1-2-54.car3.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.68.122.102] <- wow? 9 32 ms 32 ms 31 ms 4.78.220.10 10 32 ms 32 ms 30 ms dist-vlan31.dsr3-1.dllstx3.theplanet.com [70.85. 127.29] 11 32 ms 32 ms 31 ms dist-vlan21.dsr1-1.dllstx2.theplanet.com [70.85. 127.67] 12 34 ms 31 ms 31 ms gig1-0-1.tp-car9-1.dllstx4.theplanet.com [67.18. 116.69] 13 32 ms 31 ms 32 ms 6.67-19-36.reverse.theplanet.com [67.19.36.6] Trace complete. tracing with drawing upload Tracing route to testmy.net [67.19.36.6] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 6 ms 5 ms 5 ms 10.102.192.1 2 14 ms 11 ms 15 ms atm5-0-644.tampflerl-rtr1.tampabay.rr.com [24.92 .7.42] 3 8 ms 8 ms 7 ms srp8-0.tampflerl-rtr3.tampabay.rr.com [65.32.8.2 27] 4 9 ms 9 ms 11 ms so-0-2-0-0.gar1.Tampa1.Level3.net [209.0.96.1] 5 13 ms 14 ms 8 ms so-7-0-0.gar2.Tampa1.Level3.net [4.68.124.14] 6 8 ms 31 ms 9 ms so-7-0-0.mp2.Tampa1.Level3.net [4.68.124.17] 7 31 ms 32 ms 31 ms ae-0-0.bbr2.Dallas1.Level3.net [64.159.1.110] 8 31 ms 32 ms 31 ms ge-1-2-54.car3.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.68.122.102] 9 46 ms 33 ms 189 ms dist-vlan31.dsr3-1.dllstx3.theplanet.com [70.85. 127.29] -> 10 33 ms 202 ms 31 ms dist-vlan21.dsr1-1.dllstx2.theplanet.com [70.85. 127.67] 11 124 ms 179 ms 179 ms dsr2-1-v1.dllstx4.theplanet.com [12.96.160.7] 12 152 ms 87 ms 92 ms gig1-0-1.tp-car9-1.dllstx4.theplanet.com [67.18. 116.69] 13 150 ms 95 ms 87 ms gig1-0-1.tp-car9-1.dllstx4.theplanet.com [67.18. 116.69] 14 153 ms 90 ms 180 ms 6.67-19-36.reverse.theplanet.com [67.19.36.6] <- Trace complete.
